About the Bearded Collie
The Bearded Collie, also called the Beardie, was originally created in Scotland as a herding dog.
Today, this dog is used as both a companion dog and herding dog.
The Bearded Collie Temperment and Intelligence
Bearded Collies are great family dogs who love to play and snuggle. They are patient and kind with everyone including children. This dog loves to be with his owners and hates being left alone. They are intelligent dogs though training should begin at an early age because they are very independent in their thinking at times. They are very vocal and love to have conversations but this barking should not be taken as protectiveness because they are not guard dogs of any kind.
Bearded Collie Characteristics
The Bearded Collie has a flat skull and strong muzzle with a square nose. Their eyes are set far apart and are brown in color. They have medium sized hanging ears that are covered with long hair. When alert, the ears perk up and listen giving the hair a lift. Their legs are straight and somewhat on the short side while their feet are large and oval with well padded toes. Their coat is soft and furry inside and rough and shaggy on the outside. The most common colors are blue, black, brown or fawn with white markings.
Bearded Collie Health Concerns
This breed is prone to allergies and skin problems.
Choosing a Bearded Collie
Beardies don’t do well in apartments because they are very active and vocal dogs. They need a yard where they can run and play with their owners or other dogs.
