About the Dogue de Bordeaux
The Dogue de Bordeaux, also known as the French Mastiff, was originally known for driving cattle, dog fighting, hunting bear and boar in the south of France. The breed remained virtually unknown outside of France until the 1989 movie Turner and Hooch. Today, the Dogue de Bordeaux is known for being both a guard dog and a companion dog.
The Dogue de Bordeaux Temperment and Intelligence
The Dogue de Bordeaux has unrelenting strength, wariness of strangers, and a tendency to intimidate unfamiliar people. Therefore this breed is an amazing guard and watch dog. This is also a great family dog because they are devoted, trustworthy, patient, calm, and faithful. This dog can be aggressive with other dogs so early socialization is key. Males with not get along with other male dogs at all.

The coat is solid gold, fawn or mahogany and should be different than the black or red mask it has. The upper lips of the dog hang over the lower jaw and are wrinkly too. Their front legs are straight and heavy while the tail begin thick and ends in a thin point.
Dogue de Bordeaux Health Concerns
Health factors with theDogue de Bordeaux include dysplasia, weak cruciates and spinal problems. They are not easily bred, litters are very small and sometimes the mothers can be overprotective of their pups.
Choosing a Dogue de Bordeaux
The Dogue de Bordeaux is not meant for everyone including first time dog owners. They are powerful and strong willed and need to know who is the leader from the start. This breed tends to be loud snorers and drool a lot. They will be successful in apartments if they are exercised regularly for lengthy amounts of time.
