are in this month's issue.  I think that Whole Dog Journal does an awesome job doing all the research on dog foods and on two pages, you have the ingredients, protein, fat and fiber numbers without having to go nuts in the pet stores.  They also list all the manufacturers websites so you can get more info.  I LOVE this publication... ..lots of great articles of interest to anyone who loves their dogs....and it's not for just big paws. ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for posting the subscription link.

I'm currently researching a possible food switch for Daisy so this will help a great deal.

lol nevermind there it is. Wouldn't it figure that Natural Choice made the list but not Max Cat or Max Dog, and our picky animals will only eat the Max and not the natural Choice!

Natural Choice Ultra made the list not their other two lines of products. Not sure what knocked the regular natural choice line out (anyone know?)

I'm sure the Max was due to the corn.

It said in the article that if a manufacturer's line was listed, it was implied that all the foods they make would be on the approved list.

Thanks for this info.  Our guys are on the Solid Gold Wolf King, which wasn't on the list, although Solid Gold's Millenia and Hund-N-Flocken are.  I was wondering if we needed to switch back to the Hund-N-Flocken, but I guess we are good...

I would have to wonder if that was meant how it sounds since first mate dog food is listed and some of theirs is on the same line as feeding a food like Diamond.

Here's what it says:

"The foods on our list are not the only good foods on the market.  Plus, we've named just one variety in each line by each maker.  Usually, all the other varieties in a given line also meet our criteria."*

*pg 4 column 1   2/2006 Whole Dog Journal

The article is several pages and there is a lot of info. There is a sub-article titled "Yes, Dog Food Can Kill" which goes in to the causes of the mycotoxins (vomitoxin and Alfatoxin) which was found in the Diamond line.  It also suggests that you should always keep the dog food bag around until it's empty so you have the date-code number handy if your dog gets sick from the food.

I do think this magazine is well worth subscribing to...they don't take any advertisements so they really do check all of the research without bias. ;)

I saw that same list. Breeders Choice Pinnacle, which we use was on it also, so I guess it's other line, Avoderm is also rated good too.  Also saw an interesting tidbit at this site, re whether Premium dog food is really better and worth the cost: http://www.snoozer-dog-beds.com/Dog%20Food/Dog%20and%20Cat%20Food.htm  top of the page.  Article in good dog magazine claims it is, and cheaper also, in the long run to feed Premium.  Link to the article is at that site.  Good Dog Magazine, as far as I know is only on-line, and like Whole Dog Journal seems to provide unbiased advice.   :)
