: I'm so mad, My blood ran cold...
: K9ldy00 May 02, 2006, 11:57:57 PM
I came home from work yesterday to find a receipt for a certified letter. I went to pick it up this morning before work. As I sat in the Post Office parking lot reading it, I felt my blood actually run cold through my veins. It is from the Subdivision witch hunters ( AKA Homeowners Committe). It states that my neighbors believe that I am raising and selling dogs. WTF I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW THAT IS POSSIBLE WHEN ALL MY DOGS ARE NEUTERED!!!!!!!!!!
They go on to state that the number of dogs vary from day to day. YA RIGHT, I had 6 dogs when I moved in and have 6 now. They might not all be outside at he same time but it is still all the same dogs.
I am trying to reach the Lawyers that sent it to me. I've called three times already. And seem to be getting put off.  I'll keep you posted on how this unfolds >:( >:( >:(

Oh, I am sorry...my inlaws live in a neighborhood like that... need permission to put up fence and it can only be certain colors and height etc... christmas lights can only be white etc... so frustrating, you almost feel like you renting...and i guess your neighbors have nothing to else better to do than complain about you...

It is odd, people (some of them) just dont like dogs

Sorry

When I moved in here 7 years ago, I asked the person I bought it from if there were any subdivision rules. They told me no. The first I heard about it was 2 weeks ago when they put flyers out on a Wed. saying they were going to have a meeting on Sat. at 10:00 am. I had to work that day so I had no idea whats going on. If I would have known I doubt I would have bought here. I don't like people dictating how I keep my life.

Oh I am so sorry to hear that you have to go thru this. Some people love nothing better than to cause chaos in other peoples lives. I hope everything works out for you :)

That sounds like where I live. Curtains must be white, nothing on the doors without permission, nothing can be hanging off your deck like plants or anything, etc. It's obnoxious. I just had a little scuffle with a neighbor over her dog and Sadie, and it worked out ok in the end, but Homeowner's Associations can be brutal.

Do you have a copy of the bylaws for your HOA. Is there a limit to how many dogs you can have? You obviously have proof that all of your dogs are fixed, so don't worry about this particular complaint. Just be careful with your neighbors, because once stuff like this starts, it can escalate quickly. But as long as you're dotting all your i's and crossing all your t's, (which I'm sure you are) you have nothing to worry about. I'll be thinking of you. You probably need this like you need a hole in the head. How's Tealk doing by the way?

Tealk is doing very well. He thinks he's suppose to run and play already. He still has 4 more weeks on crate rest. He got his sutures and staples out yesterday. He goes back to UT Vet school May 24 for xrays to see how well he is healed. Hopefully the he will be able to play then.

Get copies of your vet records for each dog in case they intend to drag you up in front of the board, as well as any records from groomers, pet sitters and such. They can all testify to the altered status and the actual animals that have been in your care over the last year. Telling them that your neighbors are interfering idiots with too much time on their hands won't be enough. Prove it to them.
It sucks that you even have to be bothered with any of it.

I finally got in touch with the lawyer who is represnting these witch hunters. I told him I had 6 dogs when I moved in 7 years ago, I have 6 dogs now and  they are all neutered.  As for the noise complaints, all my dogs are in the house while I am gone to work. The neighbors claim they can hear them howl while I am gone. ::)  I cannot belive it can be that loud. I told the lawyer of course they howl when I leave for work and they howl when I get home. I cannot belive their howling would be any more noise decibels then say a weed eater or a lawnmower. I also explained I have no children and 6 kids would make a heck of alot more noise then my dogs do. I also told the lawyer that kids ride up and down our street on their 4 wheelers which is not ideal but I manage to tolerate it. People should get in the habit of live and let live. I also told him if they have a problem with me, give them my phone number and don't hide behind all this paperwork mumbo jumbo.

REmember -- calm-assertive pack leader!  You can whip those pansy home-owners into a nice calm submissive pack if you maintain confidence and show you're the ALPHA!

Too bad we couldn't all come down there for a visit and let your neighbors find out what a bunch of big dogs REALLY sounds like!  That would be too funny.

I live in a very old neighbourhood.  Its actually called Little Poland lol, which is interesting for the young scottish girl   It is literally all elderly people. I actually had one say "wow that dog has a very high pitch bark" lol they were talking about Atticus, but it was Sable barking.

Sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread....sorr y..sorry..sorr y

I don't consider it hijacking . I appreciate everything all of you have to say.  I especially enjoy a good laugh ;D

To bad my neighbors weren't blind and deaf. Maybe I could arraign something with my old Mafia friends from Chicago ;)

Association bylaws/rules etc bite.  We live in a Condo development with a bunch of rules too.  No one has ever complained about anything ... but that's just ridiculous.

I'm ready

I'd be there! Sure beats paying a mortgage and having the worst of both worlds (renting and owning). That's what kills me. I pay through the nose so I can have no control over my own home? What?

What was the lawyer's response when you explained the situation? Is this the end of the issue? I don't blame you for expecting your neighbors to talk to you instead of hiding behind paperwork. It's just common courtesy.

The lawyer said he would tell them what I said and they should be glad I addressed it so quickly.
I still have a feeling someone is going to try to cause trouble. As there is a nuisance or annoyance to the neighbors clause in the subdivision bylaws. But I feel that is kind of vague. That is a matter of opinion. In my book when someone runs the weedeater or leaf blower for hours on end, that is an annoyance. If I have to rent one of those noise decibal meters I will. We will see which one is louder. The howling or the leaf blower.

In my bylaws, it says noise levels have to be "reasonable" before 7 AM and after 9PM and to excercise courtesy during all other hours. Not that anyone does. If I had to guess, I'd say the leaf blower is probably a heck of a lot louder than your pooches. It does sound like your neighbors are just trying to start trouble. Just keep your head when you're dealing with it and you'll be fine. It's important to understand clearly what the bylaws say though, so you can prepare yourself and have a leg to stand on if they push the issue further. Good luck!

Get a chainsaw and, and take up learning how to do chainsaw carving.  Might want to take the muffler off for added effect.

Or, you could just buy yourself a harley davisdon motorcycle and put custom pipes on it.   ;)  We'll see who thinks you're too loud then.   ;D

I find this absurd.  If you've had the same dogs for the past year, I would think people would be somewhat observant to recognize they are seeing the same ones and not different ones.

As for the noise complaint, that is just harassment on their part.  I don't like barking dogs any more than the next person.  BUT, if they are in someone's house, I certainly am not going to complain about that.  I would soooo much rather have barking dogs in a house, which I can somewhat ignore, than have them outside making a fuss.

I hope this can get resolved for you soon.  This seems to be happening more and more.  Really, people need to learn a bit of tolerance and learn to co-exist with others.  Nobody's perfect, and you can't expect to live in a perfect world that caters to your every need.  These people need to get over themselves and find some better way to occupy their time.

All I can say, is they will find out who the ALPHA is if they want to pursue this, I can get mad and still kill them with kindness at the same time.
I also know that in some states the HOA has to give you the bylaws within a certain time, and I do not think that it is 7 years, but I am going to be doing some studying this weekend  ;D

If they really want to press the issue, record your baby's for the time you are at work for a few consecutive days.. and see if they really are fussing much.  I've known a few people with neighbour issues who were either able to prove their dogs rarely fuss, or not much at all when they do, or that the neighbours were purposely trying to tick off the dogs and get them to howl, even indoors..

You don't even have to buy. I have the Harley, with straight pipes no less.  :o Sets off car alarms parked on the street for a two block radius if you crank it. We can even throw in a Honda, just for fun. :D
I'd love the excuse..ROAD TRIP!!

I love the way you guys think. :D
I was just on Ebay shopping for some bark collars, I wish everytime my dogs get shocked from these collars that whoever was complaining about them could feel the shock also ;D

Are the windows, shades closed.... I do tht and keep the AC on to drown out the outside noise LOL

i keep my dogs inside when I am not home because of barking (which i know they do) and because they are just plain old safer inside vs. outside

the only problem with just bark collars is that they will go off even with a rumble or growl...

I use electric collars on my dogs but havent had the need to use the bark mode...

have you tried the citronella ones?

Sounds good to me!  Maybe you can run an electric fence into some of their houses!  LOL!

I have some of the citronella collars and have been very pleased with them.  Did the job very quickly and humanely.  Jesse was the worst offender and within a few weeks, he didn't bark any more at night (he'd been habitually barking at 3 am we think because he wanted to move to a new sleep location and dominant Josh wouldn't let him).  Josh is gone now and Jesse doesn't wear the collar any more but when he was wearing it, I only turned it on at night so he could bark at important things during the day.  They claim to work better than the e-collars.  Don't know about that but it is more of an annoyance to the dog than anything.  Not painful.  I think I got mine through Jeffers - www.jefferspet .com

Smart dogs learn to avoid the citronella though. They bark and leap backwards, and don't get the full spray in the snout, or figure out if you bark non stop you empty the collar..
For dogs it works on it's awesome, just plenty of dogs are too ingenious for them.
