16  BPO Medical Forum / Treatment & Preventative Meds / Re: To spay before 1st heat? on: November 24, 2008, 03:39:44 PM
I've never heard that it was good to wait untiol after the first heat to get spayed. Everything I've ever read and every vet I've talked to says that you should do a spay before the first heat.

As far as the medicine issue goes, I think you should call your vet and ask them for advice. They would know best about medicine interactions

18  BPO Food Forum / Food Discussion & Information / Re: I am feeding enough? on: November 24, 2008, 12:36:45 PM
I'm not sure what the recommended feeding amount is on that brand, but you should have a rough idea how much to feed based on her weight if you look at the serving suggestion chart on the bag. And you can tell if she's getting the right amount by feeling her rib cage - she should have a thin layer of fat over her ribs.

The speed that she eats doesn't neccesarily mean that she is starved. Some dogs just eat fast. Eating too fast can cause gulping of air that could lead to bloat, so you want to try and get her to slow down. You can buy a bowl called a brake fast bowl http://www.brake-fast.net/ that helps, or you could make a DIY version by putting safe obstacles in her bowl that she needs to eat around

Putting someone on hold and then hanging up is rude no matter what the circumstance! I would call back and leave a message saying that you are offended

22  BPO Grooming Forum / Discussions & Information on Grooming / Static electricity on coat on: November 23, 2008, 09:45:00 AM
When I was furminating Penny last night I noticed there was a lot of static electricity. I think that part of the way that the furminator works is with static cling to get the loose hairs to cling, but this was A LOT. So much that I actually saw a few little blue sparks and could hear the little shocky noise. I was afraid Penny might be able to feel the static shock, but the only way I know to get rid of static is with dryer sheets, which I thought might upset her skin. Any other ideas to get rid of static electricity on fur  Huh
23  BPO Just For Fun Forum / Holiday Things / Re: Let the celebrating begin... on: November 22, 2008, 04:50:58 PM
I looked online for some today. Does that count? I need to get a good pic of all three girls.

You should do vistaprint. That's who I got mine from. I have a friends and family link (pm me for it) that they keep extending the date on and with the discount it's dirt cheap! And the quality is good - I got mine from them 2 years ago and was really happy with them.....

The pic, however, I can't help with. I just advise that you get a helper and LOTS of treats  Cheesy I need to post some outtakes from my photoshoot

26  BPO Just For Fun Forum / Games & Jokes / Free Rice on: November 21, 2008, 12:44:28 PM
I discovered this site today called freerice.com where you play simple trivia games to build your knowledge (it has language, science, math, geography, and art). And what's really cool about it is that they donate 20 grains of rice for each correct answer, which doesn't sound like much, but it adds up. Today I played on it for like half an hour and donated more than a complete bowl (there are abou 3,500 grains in a bowl). So go build up your brain and help feed people!

28  BPO Gear Forum / Collars, crates, & other cool things / Re: Tricky Treats Ball Toy Review on: November 13, 2008, 09:49:10 AM
They had a hard plastic cube that worked the same way. I think I'm going to get that one tonight instead. Maybe it will last longer.

The square one is called a buster cube. We have one and penny and she wants nothing to do with it! Since it's hard plastic the food hitting the walls makes a loud jingly noise that Penny is terrified of.

I actually want the tricky treats ball that you have since it's softer walls it won't be as loud so maybe Penny would play with it. I have a friend who has the ball and her dog will bring the ball to someone to get food put in and then push it around for hours on end
29  Newfoundlands / Newfoundland Discussions / Re: How often to you give them a bath? on: November 11, 2008, 04:33:31 PM
Don't
I'm different than most because Bear gets a bath once a month.
Don't worry, with the "yuck" factor, Penny probably gets a bath once a month too  Tongue Just not an all out regularly scheduled grooming.
30  BPO Website Forum / Specific Website Information / Re: Lord have Mercy, what is up with all the porn spam? on: November 11, 2008, 03:34:37 PM
The email registration system that we use to prevent spam was having issues yesterday and today, which is why so much spam got through. All of the mods delete and ban spammers as quickly as we see it, so it is only up for long if not of the mods are on.
