DIY Agility Equipment Ideas? - Jumps
« on: May 28, 2006, 01:41:13 am »
So after a shipping fiasco on my agility tunnel.  I'd like to make jumps.  Which SHOULD be an easy process but it's getting to the point of not..  Online sites have varying methods showing 1" - 1 1/4" pvc tubing being used.. Home Depot sucks.  For being a warehouse of tools.. they are tools.. That carry every size but the two I'd like...

3/4" is too bendy, 1.5" is so large it's kinda funny to play with..

Jump example building pages:

The ever cute Riley and the Jump Ash bought: http://s50.photobucket.com/albums/f345/thelifeofriley2/Jasmine%2016%20weeks/?action=view&current=100_1271.jpg
Example of a better quality jump, they come in steel like this: http://www.affordableagility.com/ajumpcomp.htm

So if I'm having a heck of a time with PVC pipe, does anyone have creative suggestions or ideas that might be helpful?  Please..

I like the first two links. I would go to a plumbing supply place to get the fittings and pipe in the size you want. I would use the 1 1/2" for the sides (called the standards in the horse world) and either 1" or standardize and go with the 1 1/2" for the rails. They used a pipe cap cut in quarters and then scewed into the uprights as the rail cup. The detail I like from the second sight is at the base of the standards the put a threaded fitting there to make a temporary solid connection between the two standards.

I don't know your previous expierence with ordering but the jump at the following link look to be a great deal or at least a good canidate for copying.

I could make them, if anywhere had 1" pipe.  Every pvc design is roughly the same.. But no where is carrying it, or the fittings.  I was told that 1" is a size that no one uses.  WTF?
So I'm looking for for ideas on other materials..
I drew out an easy design I liked, to find out after shopping around that pvc pipe in an inch or inch and a quarter was seemingly non existant.
