Bear- Therapy Dog x2
« on: August 26, 2006, 01:14:22 pm »
Yeah! Today Bear went to test for the Los Angeles Based animal assistance therapy program which will allow him to work at the children's hospitals. After a long day, 4 hours, he passed his tests with flying colors! I am so excited!! This program sounds so good. As soon as we passed I got a "Love on 4 Paws" polo & matching lanyard; Bear got a new vest with the logo embroidered, a pin, business cards & a new therapy dog patch; and we got a poloroid camera. The camera is so that we can take pics with the kids at every session. Next month, after all of my health clearances are done, I'll get some preprinted stickers to put on the pics when they come out that say "I visited with Bear today!" I really can't wait, if you couldn't tell.  ;D
Hugs,
Jaime

OMG How great is that, the kids are going to love him,and you are going to love to the point of selfishness how much you love doing this.

Once all the paperwork is done and the visits begin,it is a true joy,not only to the kids (which always seem to come 1st) but also the parents and family members, and don't forget the staff, they love it to and deserve a therapy fur hug as well.

Keep us all posted on how things are going for you both.

Tricia and the fur kids.

WOW!!  Bear lasted through a four hour test??!!!  Cowboy could never do that!  He just doesn't have the stamina!  I'm SOO impressed!!  Those kids are so luck to have Bear visit!  They'll have such fun with him!

Maybe SOMEDAY Chester will settle down a bit and qualify.....

Congradulation s!!!!  You will be a fabulous team!!!!  We are hopeful that Cirra will be a therapy and R.E.A.D. dog one day.  At twenty months she is still a bit energetic.  Being a  physical therapist Denise is hoping that Cirra will be able to be a "smile machine" in medical settings and Robyn is hopeful that children will be reading to Cirra.  We have been looking in to the different therapy dog organiztions.  Any advice and/or suggestions from other BPO therapy dog team???

We originally passed last fall(where he got his CGC) through an organization called Theraphy Dogs International. The company is widely used throughout the USA but mainly focuses on helping the elderly. We went to many retirement homes/convalescent homes which was fun because old folks need love too.  ;)We did do the R.E.A.D thing at my school & with my mom's school.
