Kicking in the head
« on: September 07, 2006, 03:58:44 am »
So lately Jazmine has been itching her face, then she keeps kicking herself in the head and then biting her foot.  She will be licking her "wooo whooo" and her foot keeps kicking her in the head...she gets mad at it and bites it..sometimes too hard and she gets up and almost growls at it...lol. Anyone elses dog kick themselves in the head... it isn't itching...it is with the hock almost the pad...

Hehehehehehehe ....Boo does this!  Looks at her foot like "who are you and where did you come from??"  We also get the tail chasing too.  She'll try and scratch her head with her foot while standing up, will see her tail behind her, and will proceed to try and catch it.  Its like that video of the dog on the couch and he keeps growling and attacking his leg cause he thinks its trying to get his bone.

Phoebe does the same things too but gets really upset at her hind end when she toots, which lately is more often as we're trying to get her to a new food. She'll lift her head to look at her hind end then toot, growl at her back end then rush her head towards her back end trying to bite it and barks at it. My husband calls her the talking stinker when she does this. It's one of the few times we ever hear her make a sound.

No Phoebe is 100% deaf. I can yell to her and she never comes or perks her ears. She can be sitting beside me and I'll talk to her or call to one of the kids and she doesn't move a muscle. I think with the toots she feels it more then anything? I don't know but it's very funny.
What is Prozyme? Is it like Probiotics? I feed this to my parrots monthly to help with their gut flora. I get the non-dairy for the birds.. I wonder if I could feed either the dairy or non to Phoebe? I've read that Cottage Cheese and Yogurt are okay for Danes so Probiotics should be okay?

yes it is a probiotic, yes it is great for danes especially for those who bloat. If http://www.prozymeproducts.com/    there you will see what it is. You give 1/4 tsp. per cup of food.

Oh I wanted to mention I also use this organic natural spray on Phoebe that helps with itching, dry skin (not that she has any) and shedding. I originally made it for one of my plucking parrots and it's worked wonders so I thought I would try it on Phoebe and it's been great for itching especially if she gets bug bites. It's like a herbal tea which I steep and then pour into a spray bottle until it's cooled. If interested in the ingredients let me know and I'll post the recipe.

 ;D Okay it's
1 Tbsp dried Calendula Herb
1 Tbsp dried Chickweed Herb
Steep both herbs in 2 cups water for 5 minutes, strain the herbs out and pour into a spray bottle and allow to cool. Store in Fridge for up to 4 days then make a fresh batch.
I find the herbs at our Community Natural Foods store and generally buy a few scoops of each herb because I use it for my parrots and the dogs.

I just mist it on. The spray helps relieve itchy or dry skin, it's much like Aloe and soothes. I find Phoebe itches less and since we've started using it she isn't shedding and leaving hair all over where she rubs. Generally I would find white hairs all over the black leather couches, two of my rugs and on any dark clothing I would wear. I find a lot less hair now. Phoebe gets baths once a week and sometimes more often if she's been out in the rain and chose to roll in mud (which the stinker loves to do). It doesn't leave her fur feeling sticky either.

How many baths is too many then? We give our Chihuahua 1-2 a month, but Phoebe is always out back in my gardens getting dirty, at the end of the week she's always dark grey if not almost black which is why we've resorted to 1 bath a week with the occassional 2nd depending.
