Ella, a Mastiff Cross???
« on: September 04, 2007, 06:48:46 pm »
Hi folks,

I've just joined this forum as my partner and I are rehoming Ella from our local dog shelter.

http://www.dogandcatshelter.com/html/top_dogs.html

She is a stunning cross and all we can put our finger on is that she is part mastiff. Also, judging by her looks and behaviour I have a feeling there is some kind of blood hound/hunting dog too... She cannot stop sniffing as she goes and actively catches scents in the air.

What are your thoughts out there?
We will be bringing her home next Tuesday.

Adrian

Hi there,

I just tried the link again and she is there at the top of the page. Try it again and if you cannot see her I will attach the pics like you said.

Thanks

Adrian

Oh she's too cute!! Are you changing her name? She looks a little toughter than an "Ella", ya know?

I'm going to have to agree with the foxhound/mastiff mix. she has the slight build for a mastiff but definately NOT the coloring.

She's gorgeous though!! Congrats on the pretty addition to the family. Oh and welcome to the board!

that's her. that's her! A mastiff/foxhound cross. My partner got the mastiff part and I said a hunting dog too.

Thanks for the thoughts.

She is stunning. We're thinking of keeping her name actually. As she is so unique I think having a name like Ella is different for a big dog, so kind of suits her, as she is different.

And she is a big softy :-)

I'm with Holly. But whatever this sweet girl is, she's gorgeous. Love the big smushable head and square nose - and the wrinkles on her forehead. And her markings are great. Good for you, good for her! :) I look forward to hearing about your rescue experience. We rescued two Saints 3+ years ago and although we've had our challenges, can't imagine life without them. Welcome! :)

Holly, now you've given another good suggestion.

The mountain dog is such a similar head and body.
Tricolour too....

Cannot give an exact size, but like a fully grown labrador size I think, just stronger.

Hmm, which is it I wonder?
mastiff/foxhound or Swiss Mountain Dog/foxhound?

I also agree with the Swissy X. Also, I think that Ella is a FANTASTIC name for her! She's gorgeous and the name suits her!
