Raw beef liver
« on: September 23, 2007, 03:15:42 am »
What  is going to happen when I feed my dogs raw beef liver?  They won't get diarrhoea, will they?  I was surprised at how cheap the stuff actually is - about 80 cents Australian for about 270g - and I know it's full of pretty good stuff.  But is it OK to feed raw?  Or should it be cooked (I don't fancy doing that, having memories of the bad smell it produces)?

I thought I might feed them some just once each week if all goes well ...!

I would only feed organic raw liver or kidneys, otherwise it is the nastiest stuff ever. I usually boil or broil it. My pooch loves it  ;D

Thanks; I've actually got two packets so I might freeze one and just go slowly with the other at first and share it between them.  That is interesting to hear how some dogs don't like it cold from the fridge - which is something I have encountered with cats before (not liking food unless it is blood temperature)but never with dogs.  I guess I'll just leave it out for a while instead of cooking it because I really don't want to smell out the house.  I can't believe humans eat it!
