« on: February 12, 2008, 11:48:21 am »
I am giving the Wild Alaskan Salmon oil to Bear, just today,I guess its had time to build up in him,he stinks like salmon and so does is entire crate :P the entire dinning room where he stays stinks terrible! its coming out in his skin and apparently the stinch is in his crate as well!!

Has anyone else had this problem?

I recently started the salmon oil with Jenny, but so far, there really isn't any smell.  I had read that some people's dogs' faces smelled after eating, but Jenny really doesn't. What kind of oil are you using? I have the Henne Pet Food Kronch salmon oil for dogs that I bought from www.onlynatura lpet.com. It has a pump and I give her 1.5 pumps in her food twice a day.

I have the Wild Alaskan Brand,he gets 1 teaspoon once a day,it calls for 1 teaspoon per 20 pounds,he weighs 35 but it reccomends for pups not to get the whole amount,so he is actually only getting a 20 pound dog amount. He has been on it a week now.he just started smelling today!

I would try cutting back to maybe half a teaspoon a day and see if that makes a difference.  The pump is a great idea too.  :)

Try some parsley. It comes in powder, caps & tabs. (Pet & human form)  :)

I use Pure Icelandic Salmon Oil from only natural pet

http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/products/Only-Natural-Pet-Pure-Icelandic-Salmon-Oil/999060.aspx

It's doesn't stink at all...it does have a light fishy smell when I pump it on food but nothing after  ;D

Do you mean to give the Parsley to help with the smell?

We also use the fish oil gelcaps/caplets instead of the oil in a pump bottle form.  We tried the oil form before and found this would get stuck in her mane and would make her stink like fish really fast! The gelcaps are great (we give her the 1000mg dose per meal), since she can just ingest it with the rest of her food.

I give Cabeza the caplets as well. We've never had stinking issues. I sometimes give him Dream Coat in his food, too, and that never caused stinkyness either.

Parsley would work well for that, though.
