UPDATE:  We had another great day at school. Derby got to spend some more one-on-one time with some of the kids and helped with their therapy sessions. I didn't get a chance to take too many pictures because I was having too much fun teaching the kids how to help Derby do his tricks and dancing with one of the boys, but here's what I did take:

Derby and Kayla

Derby and Tylee (this little boy has severe autism and they can't get him to focus on anything, but he's been asking for Derby every day since we were there last. They are amazed that he focuses on Derby and the teachers almost broke into tears when he told Derby "down" and gave him a treat).

Derby and LeeLee

Derby giving kisses

Derby goofin' around on the playground.

Oh, thank you for the pictures.  I almost cried too!  Binky and I are hoping to do something similar now that she has her CGC and you and Derby have definitely inspired me!

Thanks for all the comments! Derby's head is swelling now. He really is a special boy. They want him to come back every week now until the end of school. I like doing it just as much as he does and I know I get just as much out of it as the kids do. We are very blessed.

As a person who works in mental health, I can't even begin to tell you what a wonderful thing that you and Derby are doing.  I've thought of introducing Raja to some of my clients, but she's too big.  And Bo, he really is wild and crazy (flunked out of dog school twice - I believe the exact words "some dogs shouldn't breed" came up - don't worry he's neutered).  And Shadow, she really is a cat.

Aww!! Derby looks like he was a hit!  What a wonderful thing to do!

But, umm...(Sorry to be Debbie Downer here!), I think that you probably need to remove the pictures, as posting pictures of these children in a treatment setting likely breaches confidentialit y.  Plus, I wouldn't want anything to happen to keep Derby from helping out in the future! Sorry....it's just the psychologist in me!

My mom is a nurse administrator and she said the same thing. These kids are in a public school, though - not a treatment facility so the same rules don't apply, but I more than appreciate you watching my back!

On a side note, Derby and I went again last Friday and the principal has invited us to attend their graduation next Friday. She said we are officially now part of the school so we should be there.

no. I looked at PetSmart and PetCo for something fetching to wear, but they didn't have anything fancy.
