Introducing our GP puppy
« on: August 27, 2008, 06:49:04 pm »
I've posted a few times already but thought I'd finally introduce us and our puppy, Ursa.  We're experienced large dog owners (Weimaraners and lots and lots of Greyhounds)but Ursa, our 4 month old Great Pyrenees, is our first giant breed dog and our first puppy in many years.  After our last Greyhound went to the Bridge, we were dogless for over a year before we found Ursa.  We've known some Pyr owners and really liked the breed but wanted to wait until our schedules allowed for a new family member before we brought a puppy home.  She's been with us for just under 3 weeks now and has settled in nicely.

I'm so glad we found this board.  Everyone seems really supportive and friendly and willing to offer advice or encouragement!

Welcome to the board (or a belated welcome since it was a belated introduction)  ;).  Ursa is such a cutie in that pic.

Awwwww, she has such a sweet face!  Welcome, but just so you know, not only is BPO habit forming, so are Pyrs!  ;D  The good news though is that both are very healthy, happy habits.   ;)  ;D

GoldenPyrs- you're right about the habit forming part.  We're already wishing that we'd brought home a boy and a girl!

Ha, ha!  I sure understand that feeling!  We have our two Pyrs currently and if it weren't for the fact that we just found out that we may need to move, we'd be adopting another.  I would so love to add a pup or young dog to our pack!

If you decide to add another to your family, you might consider rescuing a new sibling for Ursa.  Though we've had Pyrs since 1989, until 2 yrs ago I seriously had no idea how many Pyrs are homeless in shelters or rescue.  Last winter I think that someone here said that there were something like 1200 homeless Pyrs just on Petfinders at that time.   :'(  Since we adopted Sammy & Cassie, we'll always have at least one or two rescue Pyr pups in our family at a time.  So many sweet pups, so few homes.   :(

Give pretty Ursa a big hug for me, ok?   :)
