Question about heartworm meds and weight?
« on: October 28, 2008, 02:57:40 pm »
Every month I take Gunner in to the vet for a weigh in for her HW meds.
I was told to do this until his weight has leveled out.  I dont pay an office visit, we just go in, weigh and buy a pill.
What did/do you guys do?

I take my dogs, other than ChiChi to Petsmart for weights every week or so.  She goes to the vet once a month, to weigh in.  I give them Ivomec for heartworms, based on weight, and since I am such a worry wart, I weigh them prior to giving it.

Petsmart is great.  I used to go to my Vet every Saturday morning when Butler was a pup.  I have done this with all my Giants.  In additon to charting the growth/weight I think there is a big plus in that it eases anxiety of going to the vet since using the scale and all the love the pups get at the vet by the techs & customers paints a positive memory for you pooch beyon getting poked and prodded.

We too go to the vet for a weigh-in. The pups got their first dose free (yea, since that was the only dose they were ever going to have an the under 25lb size). I got a six pack to split of the next size up. If they grow out of it (and they might before that third dose) my vet will let me swap them out (yea again).
