Friend feeding raw...and milk?
« on: November 05, 2008, 03:02:21 am »
Ok, so one of Tucker's friends is a Great Pyrenese who is 3 years old named Jackson. Jackson and his mom, Sherry, live about 4 blocks from us, and we walk together sometimes on the weekend.  Jackson has been fed raw food from the get-go of raw food, but I found something else interesting last weekend.

In the morning with his breakfast, Jackson is served about a liter of MILK (1%)!!  He still has access to water at breakfast, she's not giving him milk INSTEAD of water, its "as well as".  Apparantly Jackson just LOVES it and laps up the milk every time.

Is this nuts? Have you guys heard of this before? What would the benefits be of giving your dog milk? I thought she was nuts.

Although, I don't give Lily any milk it doesn't sound nuts at all. Growing up in Russia and spending summers at the villages all the dogs always got milk a few times a day  :)

Growing up we had goats, and we used to give the Newfs the extra milk. They loved it. And every dog I know loves cheese. Last night Clancy put his foot on the table for the first time ever to get close to the cheese plate put out for guests at our Election Results Party (he did not, however, actually steal any of the cheese; that was left for my friend’s much larger boxer to accomplish, LOL!).

It is a common practice for those Pyrs working livestock to get milk straight from the spigot so to speak.  My dogs love it and whenever the mom of a litter has pups I give milk to her as well.

I thought dogs got the runs from milk??? Im not sure I know I do if I drink milk lol. Lactose intolerant. I still drink it every once in awhile, but I have to watch my intake cheese, milk, or I get sick and the supplement is not like the same thing. I'd rather get sick just to enjoy milk products. ;D

I give my dogs milk occassionally.  It's never bothered any of them.  I am with Stella, I love milk.  During the summer, I usually come home and make me a milkshake for dinner.  A chocolate milkshake is a necessity when I am sick.  Comfort food/drink.

I'm not going to give Tucker milk anytime soon- he hasn't had any since weaning, and he's fine.  I, myself, however LOVE milk and probably drink about 8 liters (maybe a touch more) in a week.  I also have two cats, one who can not stand milk, won't go near it, (she's 6 years old) and my other one (who is 2 years old) who LOVES it, and will dance around in front of the fridge doing this weird milk cry (we think it translates to "I want milk! I want milk!) and whose face will literally light up when we reach for a saucer for him and open the fridge to get the milk out. Go figure.
