Just a little vent about my cr@ptastic day.
I had an appointment today for 8 am to have my oil and transmission fluid changed today, I woke up at 8.  was an hour and a half late getting to the garage.
That's fine, whatever, I stopped at Tim Hortons to grab a coffee for my mechanic to say sorry for being late.  Car was in the shop for about 3 hours.  When it was all finished I got in her to start her up and drive her home after paying Geoff (my mechanic) $100 for the servicing, turned the key, and my car wen KURCHUNK KURCHUNK and then it died.  Geoff nor his hired hand, nor myself can figure out what the heck is wrong with my car, their computer won't read my car because it's a Dae Woo with a Chev emblem on it.  I'm able to keep the car running by constantly keeping my foot on the gas, so I say fine, I'm taking to the dealership where I got it, and they can fix it, only problem is, my warrenty ran out like 4 months ago.  Whatever, I can't afford to be paying for a car that I can't drive because it's broken, even though I've just been laid off, now have a grand total of $93 to my name, and this could cost anywhere between $200-1000 depending on what the heck is actually wrong with my stupid car.
I call my mom.
She convinces me to DRIVE it home, and then have a tow truck take it into town from there!
That was a terrible idea.  In order to get my car home I had to constantly have one foot on the break and another on the gas, I ran 2 red lights because I wasn't sure if I could get it going again, and was terrified the entire way home.  Fine whatever, I got her home by 3:30, and called the tow truck, the CAA person told me that a truck would be there within the hour.  That's good, because I have an appointment at the school I used to go to, to practice for a test to upgrade my welding certification, that's at 5.  The towtruck doesn't get to my house until 5:30!!  When he does get here, the driver is rude, and miserable, my boyfriend Mike locks his keys in HIS car, and the towtruck driver throws a fit when I ask him if he wouldn't mind unlocking Mikes car before he takes my car to town.  I have to literally call CAA to have them issue another PO# and add it to my bill when the door unlock thing takes like 2 minutes.  Whatever.
I finally get to the school by 6:15ish, I forget my resume that I was supposed to fax, I now have a headache that could kill an elephant, and I can't weld worth a darn cause I'm so stressed out I want to cry.
My mother said she was going to pick me up from the school on her break from work at 9:30, she forgets me, I call her at 9:45, standing outside in like -19 degrees, and finally get picked up at 10:00.
I drive her back to work, stop at a store on my way home, and pick up some gingerale.  Now it's 11:30, I still have my headache, but at least I've got myself a nice strong drink of Rye and Ginger.

Sorry for the length of my little rant, thank you for listening.

Yeah I vote for kicking the mean tow truck drive and a second drink (And I don't even drink!!)

Regarding the dealer - I believe your in Canada so I don't know if this holds true but I had 2 lemon cars in a row and was constantly having problems - 2 differend dealers told me that they traditionally will grant 2 "free" or highly discounted fixes if a car breaks down within a reasonable of time after the warranty expires.

Actually my car now which is a good almost trouble free car, was granted a "free" fix when my airconditioner went a couple of months after the warranty expired.

You have to be professional and assertive. Hopefully they can cut you a deal.

AWW!  Thanks for all the nice replies guys!

Okay, here's the updated scoop.  I did have a second Rye and Ginger and it tasted very good, then I passed out because I never drink anymore and it knocked me on my butt!  Roll Eyes Smiley

The dealership looked at the car today, they charge $100/hr and they found 2 things wrong with me car.  The first thing is a PCB valve which only cost $11, YAY.  The second thing is a Mass Air Flow Regulator  Huh Huh Huh  Whick the dealership wanted to charge me...Wait for it...Get this $700 freaking dollerss!!!!!  Before labour and tax!!!!!!  Holy CR@P!  So I told the guy there I needed to think about it.  I called my mechanic friend who did the oil change and he said he could do it for like $350.  Okay!  Now I have to wait another 2 hours for CAA to get another towtruck out the the dealership and have my car towed back to Geoffs garage, pay the dealership $138 for the diagnostic and the PCB valve, and come up with another $350 for the Mass Air whateveritis.

Sigh!!!  It's only 11:46 am, but I think I'm ready for a nap!  And another Rye and Ginger... Cheesy

Modified to add:  Jen, it does make me feel better, because I loved the book too, and I hoped someone would make the connection.  Smiley  Thank you.  Kiss

Hope today is better.  Kiss

Your title made me smile too. My daughter (now 20) and I read that  book - and the sequels - all the time.
