But He's Not Broken-updated- e-collar picture
« on: February 23, 2009, 02:36:39 am »
I just came home from taking Clifford in to be fixed, poor baby. This morning before I got up from bed he came in and was especially snuggly, obviously knew I was worried about something. Good thing he didn't know what. He likes going to the vet, lots of people and attention. I had them take me back so I could see the cage he would be in, I wanted to make sure it was big enough. No problem, I think it would have fit a horse and he went right in.

He's just in to be neutered. Although if the vet had his way who knows what might get done.
On the first form I filled out it had something about if they found fleas they could treat for them. I wrote a big no!. Then the vet called after the initial exam. Scared me when he called. I thought something was wrong. He said Clifford's ear is infected again. yeah, I know, it comes and goes. He wanted to shave the hair around the outside of his ear to help with treatment, another big NO! He said under the flap where some of the gunk gets stuck. I said no I could do it myself. I'm sure there will be more when I go in. I suppose he is trying to help, but I think getting neutered is more than enough for one day.

The only advantage I could see would be getting it all done while the Big Cliff is under anesthesia.

Sometimes it does feel like the vet's try to pad the bill though.

Big kisses on that sweet mug of his.

When I left Clifford at 8:30 this morning they said to call anytime after 2pm. I made it clear until noon. I just called. They said he did fine with his neuter and he was just coming out of his anethesia. They said he was licking his stitches so they had to put an elizabethan collar on him. I asked if he would even fit through the doorway then. Have any of you ever had to put one of those on a big dog? Any other solutions for me. I'm suppose to pick him up after 2:30.

I have seen a cervical type on Doctors Foster and Smith. It's like an inflatable type and looks like is it much better than the good old lampshade! Hugs and healing to that big boy!

Good luck and have a speedy recovery, Clifford! Boy, when lucca got neutered it was a madhouse in here! Mostly because I was so worried about him, but he was so loopy on drugs that first night that it was also pretty funny -he would just sit there, sort of swaying from side to side but refused to go to sleep!

Also putting on the wrong way works wonders...they dont seam to terrified of it then!!

Maybe you'll luck out and he'll associate the stitch licking with the evil collar and not do it anymore.

Poor baby. You'd think after all these years, the veterinary business could come up with a better deterrent.

Wishes for a speedy recovery.

Oh, that picture brings back bad memories. :( I wish you were in MI. I have a barely-used Newf-sized BiteNot collar that needs a home. If I thought it'd get to you in time, I'd mail it, but he'd probably be healed by the time it arrived.

Poor Clifford, Bubba feels your pain. :D

I didn't use the e-collar on Bubba. I didn't think he was licking.. but he was after I was sleeping. Bugger, LOL
