Daisy has a rash....or something...
« on: December 15, 2005, 07:25:37 pm »
How can I put this kindly.....Dai sy has a lot of skin so she has a lot of folds.
Especially between her back legs  ::) and sometimes the folds on her belly hold moisture.  She cleans it but I don't think it really dries.
So she has these little sore areas.  They almost look like tiny hot spots.  They scab over and when I clean them they weep and the skin looks red.  There is no fur loss and she doesn't mind if I clean them.   If I clean them and put neosporin on them they clear up.
Once they are clear I stop and they come back.
If only she would lay on her back spread eagle like Jilly does everything would air out.  :o

Could these be hot spots?  Or something else?
I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks,
Wendy

aHHHMMMM!  I think they are like diaper rash.  When Cowboy had such a nasty bottom, his vet suggested that  I use Desitin on it and it healed within about two days.  There's also a product called 'Butt Paste' which is used for the same thing.  You just have to be careful that she doesn't lick it off....it's not good for her.

Hi!  My bulldog, Alexis, would get rashes like that too.  My vet told me to clean the area gently with hemmorhoid pads and then put Gold Bond powder on it.  It totally works and it keeps the area dry without hurting her.  Oh, the only embarrassing part is buying the hemmorhoid pads   ;D

It DOES look like diaper rash.
I have some Desitin so I'll try that first until they dry out a bit.
Then I'll try Gold Bond Powder for keeping her dry.

Huh...and I thought I'd gone past the whole diaper rash scene since my kids are teens now.  Silly me.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Daisy's ......um.....l ower belly......loo ks so much better now!
Treating it like diaper rash was the key.
Prior to your advice I wasn't focused on drying it out and I was probably making it worse.
There are no more little sores.  It looks healthy....HUR RAH!
Thanks again!!!
