oh doghealer...
maybe you can help me out here....
whatcha think I'll get w/ a black & a blue breeding?
I have the opportunity to use a BEAUTIFUL blue male when Sara's sister comes in heat.
I need to do some research. whatcha think?
I think that unless your black carries blue, which she wouldn't if she's a harle-bred black, you won't get any blues. Blues can only happen if both parents are carrying the blue gene. (Carriers of the blue gene can be black in color.)
The breeding you are thinking about might be considered combining the wrong color families together since your female isn't a black-bred black. Blues are usually bred to black-bred blacks or other blues. Your female could be bred to a harle successfully or a mantle, I
think, and it would be staying in the right color family. You wouldn't breed her to a fawn or brindle for sure. If you bred her to a harle since she is a harle-bred black, you might get some really nice harlequins! Oooh!!
But if you did breed her to the blue... you'd probably end up with some funky mismarks. Or just some black dogs.
I am totally new at this so if somebody catches an error in what I am saying please tell me!
It's really fascinating stuff!!!
