I found a lump
« on: June 06, 2005, 08:01:37 am »
God make me not worry!   I found a lump on Gracey's shoulder.  I have an appointment for her to see the vet tomorrow but I am getting really scared!

I'm trying to convince myself it's nothing...but Rotts are prone to cancer and now I can't think about anything else.

Can you describe the lump? Does it feel solid or squishy? Is it attached in the inside or can you move it around a bit?  Is it painful to touch or does she not notice when you mess with it? Is it on a bone or flesh? Size?

It's too bad they couldn't get you in today. It won't make a difference for the dog, but it does for the worrying mommy!  Finn and I will be thinking good healthy thoughts for you and your girl.

It's under the skin...a little squishy and a little solid and moveable.  It's about the size of the end of your smallest finger.  Almost like a hernia to touch it...that's how it's squishy.
When you touch it she notices you're trying hard to test it out but it doesn't hurt her.  It feels like it's on the bone right on the shoulder ... but I don't think it is cuz it will move.
She got her rabies shot a week ago and I hope it's just an irritation...I didn't notice it till a week after the shots.

You're probably right about it being an irritation from the shot... but if not I can tell you that in humans anyway if the lump moves it's almost always nothing to worry about. Cancer lumps tend to be pretty solid and fixed to something. Squishier ones that move are usually cysts. There are always the exceptions, so it's good that you have an appt. for her, but try to let your worry rest a bit. Be sure to let us know what you find out (cause I'm a worry Mama too!)

It is probably from the shot, the rabies vacinnation is a harsh one.  I'm sure it will go away in a few days.  And since it is not painful that is an even better sign.
Thanks,

Hearing "a better sign" is music to my ears.  She's too young to get sick and die.  And I just lost a dog this year...so I'm not up for that again anytime soon.  :)  Thanks so much for your positive thinking.  :)

We will be sending positive thoughts your way - always better to be safe than sorry - so hopefully it will be one of those trips to the vet that you pay a million dollars and leave with a perfectly healthy dog that just scared the crud out of you!!! That is what we do at our house!!! ;)

I haven't had experience with this Lins, but everyone has given you such good advice that I am confident your baby will be okay. I'll pray that things go well on my side for you too.

Thank goodness there are so many of you out there who have had experiences with different situations because you make the rest of us feel safe and at ease when problems arise!
Hugs,

Oh good.  I'm feeling a little better now. Everytime someone posts something it sounds a whole lot less bad.  :)
Thank you!

i haven't lost a dog since october 9 2001.....and i am CONVINCED....i will NEVER lose another!  that is just i have to live day to day, because otherwise i breakdown and bawl and am unable to function.  when i found out angus's hips were bad, i couldn't drive home i was crying so hard....and i COULD NOT THINK OF ANYTHING TO DO ALL DAY BUT LAY IN BED WITH MY DOGS AND HUG THEM LOL....

i found a lump on cody's rib area right behind the right shoulder when he was about 1 1/2.....i FREAKED out and took him to the vet without an appointment lol...and she said it was just a "fatty something"  dont remember...i have kinda blocked out that whole day, and the name....but it was some kinda fatty growth, NO BIG DEAL.   it was squishy and moved around a bit, and i didn't have to think twice about it.

and all you dog specialists, if i should have worried, please dont tell me LOL..i want to live in my happy little world!  no no, tell me!

it will be FINE lins!  calm yourself, and go drink some vodka

So...as the day goes by and the more people tell me their stories...I don't think I'm too worried now.
Gracey will get her chip in July when she gets fixed.  Lady already has one.  Kinda nice to have that safety feature, huh?
Thanks so much.

Oh no!  What a coincidence this is!  While standing naked in front of the mirror this morning I noticed a lump also, only mine is behind me.  It's squishy and it's attached I think, but it does move around... a lot!  In fact when I jump up and down it jiggles and looks horrible!  I know it was there last month, but I could've sworn it was much smaller and didn't have as many dimples in it...  Oh wait a minute...  I know what it is!  IT'S MY BIG OLE BUTT I GOT FROM SITTING HERE READING THIS BOARD ALL DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   ;D  I hope everything turns out ok Lins :)
