I just came across some pictures of my baby boy Tonka. Unfortunately we lost Tonka at the age of 8 months in September :( I miss him terribly. I rescued him at 4 weeks. He was the only one of 9 to live. Here are his baby pictures that I found. Thought you guys would like to see them.

What a gorgeous boy he was. If you don't mind me asking, do they know what was wrong with the litter that only 1 survived? That is so sad, but I'm sure he had a wonderful, if short, life.

Tonka was the result of a guy having 2 outdoor great danes who weren't fixed. The litter of 9 were born outside in the dirt of Texas. One of the ladies I worked for at the time lived next door to the guy. One day she noticed the puppies called the authorities and they came removed the parents, and found that he was the only puppy alive. Knowing that I had been wanting a great dane, my love for helping kids and animals she thought of me. She talked to the authorities and she took Tonka in and then he was given to me the same night. He was covered in ticks...the biggest ticks I had ever seen. He had them in his ears, between his toes, on his stomach. He was gross but we nursed him back to health and he was really healthy until he got sick at 8 months old :( then we lost him. I don't know what it was that caused him to go. We spent $1200 in tests, only to watch him get worse. The vet then wanted another $600 to do an exploratory surgery...but told me that Tonka might not make it through surgery. So I thought for the best of Tonka I would let him go. I didn't want him to suffer anymore. It was the HARDEST thing I have ever had to do.

It's so hard to make that decision when you love one so much. He was absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful eyes!

I LOVED his eyes...the blue one was kind of freaky looking when his pupil was really small though...he was such a loing gentle boy. The little boy i am trying to adopt named him Tonka...becaus e he said that he was just like a tonka truck. I think that was the best name for a great dane. The things kids say
