Great Dane Pictures / The guardians!
« on: March 24, 2006, 02:36:12 pm »
Ike & Joey snarling at the killer squirrel that's threatening our home!

Side note... it sure is a good thing that orchids are immune to Dane drool.

Well, it was a long night. Joey had no more "episodes", thank goodness! However, I was unable to sleep. I kept watch on him most of the night. He was fine, I was a wreck!

No more fire-hose bowel movements. I still have him on rice only. I'll probably give him rice and kibble for this evenings' feeding.

I think that the lil pirahana snatched something while I wasn't looking. We are only here temporarily and the only time the boys are allowed to run free is when we take them to the dog park. We even leash them in the backyard of our rental. The yard isn't that secure and we don't want to take ANY chances.

Anyway, I've learned that Joey will eat ANYTHING he finds. LITERALLY! I've caught him trying to scarf ROCKS! I am constantly pulling him away from what he thinks are tasty treats. When in reality, it's something like old chewing gum plastered to the street!

Thanks so much for everyone's concern and suggestions. At this point I do not think he needs the vet. He has zero symptoms. He looked at me as though I was insane when all he got was rice and Ike got kibble this morning! He is eating, drinking and is ready to attack Ike. I am keeping him quite and watching him closely still... just in case.

Thank you! Encintas Blvd and % is only a few miles from us!
I'll be looking them up first thing in the morning. I am about to give Joey some boiled rice and he is taking plenty of water. But, since my last post he has, literaly ejected another 2 cups or so.

How concerned should I be???? Not that I'm not concerned! Oh, I hope you all know what I mean!

I know there are several people on this board in the Del Mar, Solana Beach, etc area. I need your help.

Our 6 month old dane, Joey has suddenly become ill. At this poitn I have no idea what is wrong with him. Nothing in his diet has been changed. How ever he is a serious FORAGER... perhaps he managed to eat something, while I wasn't looking!

Anyway, the poor lil guy has SERIOUS diarhea, or HOWEVER you spell it! In the last two hours he has, in three seperate episodes, unloaded a total of roughly 6-9 cups of pure liquid.

Other than this he seems fine, he is eating well, active... seems normal. I am boiling a batch of rice as we speak.

I need to find a local vet... I would prefer to go on a recommendation than to have to pick someone from the yellow pages. I'm also hoping to find someone available on a SUnday. I know, It'll cost me... don't care.

I just hope whatever he has isn't contagious... I'd hate to see Ike, the 2 year old Dane, in the same condition (shudder). We were only lucky on one episode... the other two were INSIDE!

Meet & Greet BPOers / Re: So. Cal meet up anyone????

Too bad it wasn't sooner! My hubby and "puppies" are currently in Solana Beach (we actually live in Texas). But, we HOPE to be heading home on the 3rd.

The place we are renting is only a very short walk from Del Mar Beach. Our boys love it there... Unfortunately, we have to keep them on leashes there. The beach allows off-leash dogs but, our Ike is the best at coming when called. I doubt that he would run off but, not a chance we want to take. Particularly so close to a major road.

We take the boy to Torrey Highlands Park on a very regular basis. The have a fenced dog park there.

I love the mouth to mouth shot too! I wish I could post the sounds that accompany those faces. Ike (our big blue boy) sounds like Gentle Ben! He talks back alot too. I will never forget.... we'd had Ike all of about 6-7 days, we were all in the living room. Craig and I were eating diner in form of the tube. I told Ike to go lie down. Well, this humongoid dog is standing with his chest against my knees (which put his face approx 4 inches form my face) and he started to "growl"! I almost peed my pants! I looked over at my hubby and saw that he was laughing... the whole time Ike was "growling" at me, he tail was wagging like mad. I've since learned that he is a typical teenager that likes to talk back to Mama. That first time though... I was terrified. Thought he was gonna eat my face.

Ike, the blue, is about 2.5 yrs old. Joey, the black, is about 6.5 months. I say about because we rescued both of them. Joeys age is very close to accurate. Ike's is based on the vet's guestimate.

I just can't BELIEVE how fast Joey is growing! I can honestly say that I seem to be able to notice a difference in his size on a daily basis!

Ike and Joey are the best buddies! Even when they are trying to eat each others heads!

Ike loves to give his daddy hugs!

OH MY GOSH! Ok, this has NOTHING to do with 7th Heaven...

But, my lil Joey looks SO much like Tonka (or, baby Tonka? I don't know how old that picture is). I saw the avatar and thought...ok, whose stolen a picture of my baby. But wait... I never took a picture like that! Hehehehe!

Here he is.. not sure if I have a picture, with me, that shows how much he looks like Tonka. I'll show ya what I've got though.

Well, I got bored. I am waiting for my hubby to return and, then we are off on a 24ish hour trek to California.

Anyhooooo... busted out the camera. It's a real CHALLENGE to take pictures with a 5mo puppy in the house.

Pic #1, I was trying to get a shot of Ike on the couch. Joey would have none of that! I didn't even know he snuck in the picture until I uploaded them to the computer. Looks weird! Black puppy head on a blue bod!

Pic #2 this puppy CRACKS ME UP when he yawns. The first time he did it (after picking him up from the rescue) I started looking around... sounded like there was a COW in the living room! He is QUITE the vocal fellow.

Pic #3, another Joey yawn but, to me, it looks like he's laughing! (Yeah, I'm in love with my dogs... does it show???)

Pic #4,  it took a few days but, Ike and Joey are best buds now. Here they are doing a little mid-afternoon sunbathing.

Great Dane Pictures / Our Babies
« on: January 27, 2006, 11:21:34 am »
These are our "new" Babies. Ike (the blue) is roughly 2 years old. We adopted him the PAWS of Austin. He was so scared and 40lbs underweight when we got him. Sure can't tell now. He is the sweetest critter on the planet . Our big GALUMPH!

The little boy is Joey. We decided that Ike needed a full time playmate.  Joey also came from PAWS of Austin. He had been turned in on Christmas Eve. They told the animal shelter that he had bitten one of their children. The shelter noted it as a "provoked bite: but, they quaranteened him none the less. Poor lil guy was also VERY skinny when we got him. In the 11 days since his last vet visit, he has put on 12.5 pounds. He also seems to be "outgrowing" HOD. His first owners gave him puppy chow... tsk tsk tsk.

We are taking the boys to San Diego today... Maybe I'll have beach picture soon.
