General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: Bad Dog Food???

To answer your question, yes I have had the a bag of food the dogs would not eat.  Odd's are you would never get a company to fess up to an issue but all kinds of things can enter the food supply lane that could taint the food.  Oftern time it is unnoticable, other times you get what happend last year.

The food thing is always a lively debate with some saying you shouldn't feed puppy food and other daying you should.  At the end of the day its a personal decision.  I feed puppy food but that advice and 50 cents will get you a newspaper. ;D.  Do your own research and see what makes sense.

Well I have a Duke & A Butler, I guess that makes me royalty  :D.  We all think you have a great looking crew!

For those oldest enought to remember (not sure if they still make them) the only other acceptable term I am aware of is...

The Bubs-daddy

21
Can we at least use the proper term if we are going to discuss the male dog genetalia...

The Pink Crayola  or in latin the Crayolis Rubia

Your guy is a cute chunk.  He reminds me of Butler when he was that small.  The only piece of advice I can give that has not been said is to stock up on rags or dish towls cause your gonna need them for slobber patrol ;D  I always have several staged in strategic locations in my house.

I had Butler Xrtayed @ 6 months because I thought he had Pano, fortunately it was just a minor issue.  They did not sedate him but apparetnly he snapped at them when they were manipulating his leg for the Xray (h*ll I would snap too if you were moving my hurt leg).  Good luck!!

Great Pic's.

I am going to respectfully disagreee on the "no puppy food".  I would encourage you to find the right food be it puppy or adult food.  This debate is as unwinnable as when/if you should spay/neuter your dog and there is no one right answer.  SOoe puppy foods are properly formatted for Giant Breed dogs, others are not.  Holly, who is one of the regular contributers to this bopard, is the ace/pro when it comes to canine nutrition and has several good posts realted to canine nutrition.

Butler (Mastiff) is a puker.  I have to limit/monitor his activity and water consumption for about 30 minutes befor and 30-90 minutes after eating.  He developed this issue about Titan's age.  For Mr B it is all about food & water sloshing around his belly.  If taking him in is weighing on you I would just do it for the peace of mind.

Love the Sheeba's.  If Gage was anything like my Mastiff he would plunk his butt down on the couch with you and extend his front legs to the floor (human style)

Dog's metabolism are diffrent like humans.  I work with a woman who powers down twic as much calories a day as I do and she weight hlaf of what I do.  I feed my Basett 3/4 cup 2X a day which is below the recomended amount.  If I feed him the recomended amount he slowly blows up.  I knew it was time for a diet when he was riding shot gun when I drove to Iowa to meet my Mastiff's breeder and Duke set off the seat belt alarm in my car.   :D  Up to that point it had never happened. You pooch may not be happy about the change but in the long run she will be better off.
