I would definitely take him to the vet......I had a cat who was doing this and it is either a UTI or a behavioral issue.

We got one for our wedding so fortunately we did not have to fork out the $400.
We love it!!!!  Even our neighbors stop by to borrow it about once a month....you would be amazed of how much it picks up.
I would suggest to just get the regular dyson...the only thing that makes it "animal" is the extra attachments, which we really don't use that often.
Good Luck!

When Rufus as younger he used to sleep in his bowl...pic attached....I used to go and check on him for fear that he would drown!!!!
We try to get him out to the lake every other week, because he just has the best time...but he can get a little muddy :D

We have jsut gone through this with Rufus....Our trainer was the one that noticed him limping and said to have his hips checked out.
Severe dysplasia is what they told us and our vet was immediately saying SURGERY.....no t to mention that it would cost as much as a car.....i was very confused because I never noticed that he was in any kind of pain or discomfort.
We decided to take the "holistic" approach and started him on accupuncture treatments with a holistic vet but I wasn't noticing anything different....W hat they were calling "accupuncutre treatments" was really just giving him B-12 shot all up and down his spine.  I was so mad the last time we left because they charged for all of this extra stuff and basically felt like they were taking advantage of our "lack of knowledge" of the holistic treatments.
Last Monday, I contacted our regular vet and just pleaded with her to tell me the right thing to do if we can't afford the surgery.  She said that as long as we keep him on all of his supplements and keep his weight down, we should be o.k.
I am very intersted to see how his x-rays will change once he is full grown (he still has about 60 lbs. to go)
So we will sit tight and probably get more x-rays in about a year to see if anything has changed.
It is comforting to know that others are going through our same issues.
Thanks- Kelli & Rufus

My husband and I just went through training with our Newf and the best way to correct him is.....
Anytime he is in the house with us (except sleeping) he as his leash on with a choke collar.  When he does something wrong we yell NO, pull/pop the leash, and then praise him for listening.  He caught on to the idea in the first week and now all we have to do is say NO really loud and he knows we mean business.  Try it out.  It worked for us!

Rufus had his first treatment of accupuncture on Saturday and seems to be doing well......
He is acutally getting the sit command on the first try now and is not hesitant anymore to that command. We think that it was very uncomfortable to sit due to the hip issues.  We have "puppy graduation" tonight so wish us luck.  :)  I will keep you posted on his future treatments.
Thanks-

Rufus will be a year on the 25th of this month.  Our trainer noticed that he was "shuffling" his back legs so we took him in for x-rays.  We wer just about to go to a consultation at UGA when our trainer suggested the gold bead implants.  The purpose of gold bead implant and acupuncture is to stimulate & strenghten the muscles in his back legs so that they are not so dependent on the hip joint to move around.  It will not correct the problem like the hip replacement will but will allow him to live a good life pain free.  We have also stared him on glycoflex and fish oil.
I spoke with a couple of people last night who have had it done and they swear by it. (One guy had a mastiff who broke her back.)  He has his first accupuncture treatment on Saturday...so I will keep everyone posted on how it goes.  You have to have at least 3 acupuncture treatments before you do the gold beadimplant surgery just to make sure that he is positively reacting to it.
Thanks for your concerns and advice.

Hi-
Our Newfoundland, Rufus,  has just been diagnosed with hip dysplasia...I wanted to get other opinions about gold bead implant (a form of acupuncture) vs. full hip surgery.  Has anyone had either of these procedures done?  Can your give me your insight?
Thanks-
