Irish Wolfhounds in the pound in CA!
« on: March 29, 2006, 12:16:27 pm »
Man I can't imagine how an Irish Wolfhound ends up at the pound... but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. Anyone out there who can help these two??

Has anyone sprung big dogs from a high kill pound knowing their SO and roommate would be furious?  ???

At least their lives would be spared....but I wouldn't know where to go from there.  :-\

How about if you tell your roomy you're just moving them along to a rescue group...

I just googled dog rescue CA:

http://www.rescuers.com/

http://www.homeatlastrescue.org/

http://www.sbprdogs.org/

http://www.pcdogrescue.org/

Irish Wolfhound rescue:

http://www.iwclubofamerica.org/rescue.htm

Go get those beauties!  IWs are AWESOME dogs!  They'd be on my short list of dogs to consider if they were closer to me!

I just checked the shelter site and they said only one dog per household. They are obviously aware of people getting them for placement in a rescue....do you know if they make exceptions for that? I'd hate to seperate them(who knows maybe they have been inquired about already).

My roommate I'm not as worried about as I am Chip...I have to work Fri/Sat and he would be taking care of them(he's already ruled out having dogs that big). Regardless, I will call them tomorrow and make a trip up there while he's at work.  ;)

LOL!  There's the spirit!

If you try some of those rescue groups before you go to the shelter, they may be able to pick up one and you pick up the other  ;D   Or they can start trying to locate a foster at any rate.

I think it would be worth a mad boyfriend and roommate to keep them out of the hands of the Evil GGR. That's what's way more frightening than them even being in a shelter--that they might end up at GGR!

I agree with that part. But looking at my bank account(nearly empty), and the fact that we only have one car between us(I take him to work in Del Mar and pick him up) I may be able to swing the funds, but getting up to ventura co and back to oside to drop them off, then to del mar again....it's tricky but maybe can be done. I am still working on it though...haven't fully given up but am bumping incase someone closer can for sure do something.

In the event I can rescue these cuties I will be on here for immediate advice since I have no clue as to what I'm getting myself into....lol

If you can rescue them I could help retreive them by getting them from Ventura and meet you off the freeway...mayb e Costa Mesa??, but not until Monday. We're going out of town for a wedding in the morning and will be home on Sunday....just don't tell hubby!!!
As long as someone can take them to their forever home, I'll park the Newfies for the day!!  Do you know what the situation is?

k so far I am still going to call in the morning and see if they are there....then go get them. I hope they will fit in my vehicle...it's an xterra..midsiz e suv. I don't know anything about the shelter or how long they keep dogs. Some of LA's shelters are high kill from what I have heard.
Chip needs to go in early(darn  ;)) so hopefully I can get them get back and prepare myself before picking him back up. I know once he sees them he'll be a little ok.  :)
Thanks newf and kelley...depen ding upon what I find out I may need your help...if you want email me at my regular address listed. I can only get basic email on my phone during the day.
Wish me and luck!
Meredith
