Jaime and I have been saving Bear's hair for almost a year now - we have so much Bear hair it's ridiculous.
Thanks Michael, yeah you should go for it. I'm stoked that I'll be wearing it when I pull in some fat Halibut out in the Cook Inlet. But like I said before, use Bears undercoat if you can. We had the groomer collect all the nice clean outercoat fur that they cut off. It may be nice and Newfie Dark and durable/water resistant, but it's scratchy. I'm hoping it will soften with washing and wear, but if I did it again, I would try undercoat fur. Also, if you can find a friend or family member to knit or crochet the hat for you, do it. Still have VIP Fibers spin the yarn, that's about $70 to do 10 oz. But if they make the hat too, you're looking at about $130. It's just more meaningful if someone special makes it. Look forward to seeing yours one day.
