Food Discussion & Information / Re: Canidae: Change in Formula
« on: July 02, 2008, 08:12:04 am »
Hi,

I am going to try the new formula and see how it goes. Wisnslow is not food sensitive but if his coat and bodily functions change noticably  I'll be moving to something different.

Hi,

Thanks everyone!! I will definately make some calls. I do like my vet very much, I don't think they were running up the bill, but I'll call them and ask if I maybe missed heard something  ;) you know give them a chance to fix their mistake  ::). I have no real female issues I am just noticing a little more agression around other puppers lately and have a feeling it is the testosterone thing.

I will certainly let you know what happens. Just glad to hear my sticker shock wasn't out of wack!!

Hi,

Well Winslow turned three on Saturday. He still is "intact" When he got his summer shots i got a quote for him to be "fixed"

The quote was $945.00 :o Needless to say that is quite a bit more than I'd like to pay. The reason for the high cost ( besides him being 140 lbs) was some additional work on the "scrotal sack" is necessary since his "boys have dropped" and fixing that area is necessary to minimize  infection and swelling of the area.

I like my vet but I just can't afford to pay that much. Anyone have a suggestion on other options. He isn't going to be bred.

We are in the Boston Area.

(modified so I can get response alerts)

Anything Non-Dog Related / Re: Winslow 151 ! ! ! Happy Birthday!!!

Hi,

Thanks Guys,  ;D We had a great birthday. Winslow and his 2 best human pals (Aislynn, Madelyn) :-* all went for a long hike at the Great Brook Farm State park! http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/northeast/gbfm.htm

Winslow met some horses, goats, sheep cows , and several other hiking Dogs. After 2 hours on the hike he was thrilled with his Birthday "kiddie" vanilla ice cream and a nap!!

I can't believe my Baby is 3 years old already!!

A vinegar and water solution works great!!! Justmake sure it isn't too cold when you apply it.

Hi,

Work slowly with the steps don't force the pup's they'll take to them at their own pace. They will try to rescue but just train them to do what you want and they will Newf's learn quick and live to please their people!!

Hi,
Another male perspective. Approach him now don't wait for another outburst, because if you wait and confront him when he "reacts" you WILL get an angry response and he'll be UBER defensive.

When you are having one of your good moments, and hopefully you have plenty of them, That is the time to say you know what honey, we need to talk about your anger issues, then you can discuss and "not argue". You can even given him the choice to have that convesation then or within a day or 2. This way you give him sometime to think about it, let him know this is very important to you and for your relationship together.

You will have a much better result if you have the discussion at a neutral time and not in the heat of the moment!!

2 more cents for that bank!

Hi,

You are just experiencing the character that makes the "trait for older Newfies" What you described is what a Newfie is!! Attention form "us" is a premium followed very closely nap time!! in the coolest spot possible.

Enjoy them and No you are not being neglectful!! They were bred to sit in the Bow of a fishing vessel and pull a net, save a sailor or cart some supplies, then back to the bow until it was time to work again!!

Hi,

Either Pet Smart or Petco carries them, if you go to the link I posted above there is a store locator so you can see who in your area carries them!

Hi,

I am in Massachusetts, I use Frontline, and the playdead collar + i sprinkle winslow with Diamatious earth and spray with natrapel before walking the woods (or wahtever spray i use on myself). Since starting this ritual he has been tick free.

Buy 2 small playdead collars and attach them together to fit our Giant breeds!!

Hi,

I am using FL, the Play dead herbal, some Diamateous earth on Winslow coat when in the woods, plus i'll start spraying Off or Skin so soft, or some misquito repellent on him while camping (I spray that stuff on me and I am still breathing) He still gets ticks, he has been tested (last week) and No LYME ;D so far.

So try whatever you thinks and Check the pup's often and get a fine comb and comb them after walking the woods.

Dogs get ticks, it stinks, but we can't stop them being dogs!!
