Saint Bernard Pictures / update on Duke and Zoe
« on: October 14, 2006, 01:18:12 pm »
It's been 3 weeks now since we adopted Zoe and brought her home from Kentucky. Since she has been here it has been nothing short of amazing! Not sure what we did without her.  Duke feels the same way.  They are getting along great!
We take them on daily walks ,people stop us and think we are crazy for having two big dogs...we say we are LUCKY!  we extended their area in the back yard so they would have more room to run and play.
They are both so cuddly....when hubby gets out of bed in the morning for work...they crawl in his place.lol
At night they can't wait for him to get home from work.
Our life now revolves around our furbabies.
Where we go...they go.....We just wish that there were more places that allowed you to bring you're dogs.
We love Duke but...I just can't say enough good things about a rescue. It's like everything we do is new to her.
she didn't even know what a treat was when we brought her home. Toys? she didn't know what to do with them.  In just this short time she has come so far.
We got her changed over from the "shelter" food to Innova
and she is doing great on it. I think she has finally got it that there will always be food there for her.
I know I've rambled on and on but I just wanted to give you all an update since I don't post alot.
Also want you to know how much we learn from you all.
When you're pets are sick.....we feel for you.....when you are proud of you're pets...so are we!  What a great community this is......Life is good!
Can you stand to look at a few pics?

Our saint pup did the exact same thing..you would no longer set the bowl down and it was empty. not sure what company it is but they make a bowl for this. maybe do a search. Any way, our saint is now 4 months and has slowed down alot...sometim es even eats some... takes a break then comes back and finishes up.

Dear Dogs and Cats,

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years --canine or feline attendance is not mandatory.

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt.

I cannot stress this enough!

To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our front door:

To All Non-Pet Owners Who Visit & Like to Complain About Our Pets

1.They live here. You don't.

2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. (That's why they call it "fur"niture.)

3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.

4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly.

Remember: Dogs and cats are better than kids because they:

1. Eat less

2. Don't ask for money all the time

3. Are easier to train

4. Usually come when called

5. Never drive your car

6. Don't hang out with drug-using friends

7. Don't smoke or drink

8. Don't worry about having to buy the latest fashions

9. Don't wear your clothes

10. Don't need a gazillion dollars for college, and

11. If they get pregnant, you can sell their children.

Zoe went to the vet tonight.  All is well. He did put her on an antibotic just for percaution because she was a rescue and had a bit of a runny nose.
We need to get some weight on her . She only weights 92 pds. The vet said she is about 30-35 pounds underweight.

Other than that, shes great.  Getting much more relaxed at home.

Aren't shelter dogs great....they just are so grateful....an d I am grateful that we found her.  LIFE IS GOOD!

Saint Bernard General Discussions / WE ARE HOME WITH ZOE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: October 01, 2006, 04:21:46 am »
Hi all.

We finally made it home from Kentucky. It was a longggg
trip but well worth the time.
We also brought home 4 puppies with us...2 - 6 wk.old austrialian Shepherds and 2- 8 wk old blue ticks. They are being picked up today and eventually will end up in Eastern Pa. at a foster mothers home.

Zoe is great!
We are not exactlly sure how old she is...she was at a shelter in Estill County. She was scheduled to be put down on friday...  We were talking about a buddy for Duke and decided that we wanted to rescue Zoe.  She is so  appreciative of everything we do for her...even just a pet or a tummy rub..
I hate to think of where she has been and what she went through. BTW..fould out 9 mo. ago she had a litter of pups. I guess another dog where she was got her.
She sat between me and hubby the whole way home (8 hrs.)and just kept going back and forth laying her head on our laps. The lady at the shelter said that she would guess her at being 2 1/2 years.
her first meeting with Duke was a growl. but we worked together with them last night and no more growls except one this morning when Duke got too close when Zoe was eating a dog bisquit.  poor girl probably had to fight for her food.
Well, I know I've gone on and on. they seem to be kind of ignoring each other right now. I'm sure they will soon be the best of friends. (fingers crossed!) lol
