Awww!  ;D They're pretty cute too!!! There's a Bernard pup around the same age as Bish on the next street over from us-I love the "teenage" awkward ganglyness they have, almost as if their legs have minds of their own!

Thanks for such a wonderful welcome,
~TC & Bishy

Hi there! I love your hound! He is wonderful! Welcome to Big Paws. I'm Marissa, the proud mom of Zoey an 18 month old Alaskan Malamute and Dolly a 16 month old Saint Bernard. Holy cow! That picture of all the bloodhound pups! Boy, does Bishop have a lot of siblings or what?! Can't wait to see more pics of your cutie. Here's one of my girls.

Bloodhound Discussions & Pictures / Long ears in everything
« on: September 13, 2006, 03:30:30 pm »
Hiya,

I wanted to ask everyone what they do about the long bloodhound ears in everything...w e've been using snoods.

We are cleaning Bishy's ears constantly-insides and outsides. The insides seem to need it at least twice a week. Of course, that's par for the course with any long earred or furry earred breed. We use an ear cleanser our vet recommended by Vet Solutions.

The outsides, or the ear margins as they are called, are constantly dragging in everything. I worry about them getting infected. We wash his ears a few times a week to cleanse them, using diluted Novasan, which is an antibacterial cleanser used quite often in animal hospitals (I used to be a vet assistant).  They will still sometimes get a little red from time to time, however.

I started making snoods for him, they help to at least keep his ears out of his food and water bowls during meal time. Does anyone else do this? I've been making them out of fleecey fabrics, so they're nice and soft, and he doesn't seem to mind them at all. Almost like a turtleneck, they hold his ears out of the way, and againest his neck while he eats & drinks.

What does everyone else do about this issue?

Thanks muchly!

Hello!

My name is TC, and I'm a very happy mom to a 1 year old bloodhound named Bishop. We live in Rochester, NY.

My husband has wanted a bloodhound since he was a kid, and being partial to big dogs myself, I just had to say yes! After a really long search (over a year), we finally settled on Bauer Bloodhounds, and it wasn't too many months after that we had our new baby. We absolutely adore him. Our four cats are still thinking about it.  :P

Bishop is a great dog, and verrry smart. Not to mention obstinate. He knows all kinds of tricks, and was 2nd in his class at obediance school-whether he chooses to do what you request of him is another matter entirely.

We'd like to show him eventually, but we wanted to give him some time to be a puppy first. He really enjoys it when people clap for him-it's so cute!

Anyway, we're really excited to be here, and look forward to making lots of new friends!

You can find some cute Bishy pics at my Flickr page...

Aww! He's cute!! Bishop is our 1st bloodhound too, and just turned a year old a couple weeks ago.

Let me just say that as they get bigger, so does the drool factor also grow!  ;D You will be investing mightily in Clorox wipes or some similar product...and a "dog towel" will become your favorite fashion accessory!

Have fun with your new baby!!!
BTW, I'm new to the forums too!
