The link above is a prime example of uneduated people
there are clearly several newfoundlands in this webpage, being passed off as tibetan mastiff.
why is it that they dont care enough to really and truly research and find out the facts first?
of course your pup has some coloration on his legs as some of the pups on this site.
i am still waiting to hear from a gal, she will send me a pic of a black and tan newf.
;)

ok everyone, i do have a photo of a black and tan, and, apparently with the two pics of this guy on the couch, his color pattersn are that of this gene, that pops up quite uncommonly, though it is not encouraged to specifically breed for this color, it doesnt make him any less a newf!
but breeders do need to be made aware it did come out, and they need to be careful when they breed with all the recessives we have in our color patterns!
:)
if anyone wants to see the picture, i can upload it tomorrow. :)
thanx for your patience brett and krystal!
and thanx for putting up with me, i have not seen a pic of one in so long, i forgot that the brown travels far up the front legs, they also have some white on the chest.

Ok guys here ya go.
at first magoo seemed to have silver color on the front legs, wich is not characteristic, but closer look does show he has the tan, esp when laying on the couch.
here is a bit of learning material for those not familiar with the recessives in the breed.
:)
edited to add full photo, the smaller one is not that good

Wow, I never knew they could come in so many colors.  I'm curious Sar, why don't they breed for some of these colors?  Is there health problems associated with the recessive colors?

All i know is what the breed clubs promote, in canada, only black and landseer are allowed to show
in the usa
black brown landseer and grey, but ten years ago brown and grey were not allowed to show
it is highly discouraged and a very strict disqualifier to have a brown and white and a grey and white, and any brindle or color point such as the black and tan wich is believed to come from wayyyy back the tibetan mastiff wich is not 100% certain to be in the history.
i think mainly they want distanct color, and distinct purity in the color.
i do know many grey including one i owned to have skin problems though it is denied by many......

Thank you, that is very interesting.  I've always found it fascinating that some breeds are allowed every color in the rainbow, while others are very specific as to what is allowed, even though other colors show up in w/i the breed.
