2 Beautiful, papered male Land Seer dogs (New Foundland). Both weigh close to 150 lbs. each. Very sweet, but extra large (don't know their own strength/size). Kept outside so would need a lot of attention/training if kept indoors. Bought from breeder for my kids but now they are too large for us. Happy to part for free to the right person (that knows these dogs/or who is patient and has the room for them)

Serious Inquiries only, please. My kids are having a hard time knowing that we have to part with Gulliver and Goliath

this is in or around Davisboro, GA

C'mon people, these boys need lovin'!

Wow! That's a great deal! I will definitely try Priceline. I've looked into Expedia and Orbitz and the cheapest I can find is about $100/night.

The drive is going to be fun.  :-\ I'll be alone on a 13 hour trek. I've driven to Detroit from Atlanta alone and that was 12-ish hours, so I know I can do it...but it'll be boring!

Hi, Everyone!

I am trying to plan a trip to Madison, WI for a printmaking conference April 5-9 and I was wondering if anyone could help me find a cheap place to stay near the university. I will be driving up from Atlanta (yuck) and I need to same some money. I know that I haven't posted a lot on the board, but I read it like there's no tomorrow! Your help/advice is greatly appreciated!

Jessica

P.S. - Ivy & Skuy send lickies to all! ;D

I read a pretty descriptive article about the film yesterday and it totally broke my heart! I'm glad that I don't have cable because I would've watched it, even though I know I can't sit through anything like that. I was glad to find out that the place the documentary was filmed at has been closed. Knowing that kind of thing happens all the time really fills you with a sadness you can't shake off immediately. I, too, wish I had a place to keep all those sweet babies.  :'(

Just thought I'd share some photos of Skuy (Sky) since he's feeling better after the toe amputation. Enjoy!

Thanks for the info! I've decided not to go with the light food. As I said before, Skuy is a big dude and I really don't think he's roly-poly. He's not even fat. I bought a bag of our normal food today but I'll continue to research the super premium brands. Hopefully I can find a store close by that carries them. I live in the 'hood in Atlanta and I have never seen any feed stores near here. I'll keep looking!

Thanks for the info. I've been trying to figure out what the best food would be for him. I am a little hesitant to use a light food. I've been reading everything I can about food for Danes and I'm aware of the proper protein and fat levels, I know to try to stay away from grains especially if they're listed in the top few ingredients. I suppose I need to find a feed store in Atlanta!

Just a quick question. . . .

Skuy is a very tall boy! I'm sure you all familiar with that - you've got Danes. Anyhow, he weighs in at 153 pounds. One of the last times he was at the vet the Dr. said we might want to switch him to a light food. You can feel a thin layer of fat on his ribs, but it's not a lot. He's by no means overweight. He has gained some weight lately.

Will light food really make a difference for him? Is Science Diet a good choice?

You guys are so sweet! I was pleasantly surprised when I came home from work today to see my sweet ol' Dane at the door! He did the same for my husband who got home before me! I couldn't believe that he did it! AND he went down the steps to pee and walked to the end of the driveway! His morale has definitely improved. I think he's gonna make it! ;D

Our Dane had the worst skin ever when we got him. We switched his food (of course) but we also started using a shampoo that contains tea tree oil. The product itself is all natural and not too expensive. I believe it's made by/called Earthbath. Tea tree oil is great because it moisturizes and soothes the skin. I know the weather isn't helping things (I'm in GA), but try the shampoo and see if that helps him ease into spring.

Here's an update:

The vet called me and said that, after having a really good, up-close look at the toe, the needed to to xrays and they would call me back. It seems that the nail had fractured over the past day or so and the split went into the nail bed. It's bad. So bad, in fact, that his poor toe is being amputated! I bawled. My poor, sweet boy! They're sending the toe to a lab to have it tested so we can find out exactly what happened and if it's something that will require extended care. I feel awful.  :'(

That definitely sounds like an option. I am so anxious to get the biopsy results back. If the biopsy doesn't specify what the problem is I'll be sure to mention the cream to see if she knows what I am talking about.

I posted another picture of him that was taken when we first brought him home and you can see what bad shape his skin was in. All of that redness is long gone and his fur has grown back. I really hope he gets better soon.
