Yes, she told me that she never saw the dog, only the photo.  I believe she is the go between foster people, the humane society and adopters.  That would make her a broker in my book.  She wants me to send her $200 and then she would reimburse me for the neutering.  I do not want to be petty because my interest, of course, is the welfare of this dog.

I need a little clarification from those who might be more knowlegable in this area.  Here is how it worked: You find an animal on Petfinders that you really want to know more about.  It says that the animal is from a certain town animal shelter and it is presently in foster care.  If you visit the animal and decide you would like to adopt it, then you are referred to a  rescue group and not the animal shelter. The person from this rescue group tells you that it is great you are interested in this animal and requires a fee to adopt it if you are approved.  The person from the rescue organization even tells you that he/she has never even seen the animal but has seen the photo.  The fee is reasonable and even is supposed to include the spay/neuter fees so you think that is ok.  In other words, $200 fee, half of that includes the neuter fee.  I am a little lost here, should not this be done by the local pound where the animal originally came from or are there brokers out there putting money in their pockets?  Not mad about fees, just am curious.

Big Dogs with Jobs / Re: First project

Well, she has so many tricks that I cannot list them all but the one she is so famous for is when we had our video stores in Clovis, Ca. she made change out of the cash register.  She was behind the counter with her paws up waiting for customers to come in.  When they gave her money (which I taught her was VERY good) she would but it into the register and then proceed to give them their change.  However, if they gave her a $5  bill then she would put it into the register and give them $20 bill for their change.  She would slide it across the counter with a smile because they loved it.  People were lined up.  I wonder why we went out of business.   :-\

Big Dogs with Jobs / First project
« on: September 28, 2005, 10:16:09 am »
Well, Niki and I did our first Therapy Dog project today.  I had called a local convelsant hospital and told them I wanted to do a walkthrough to see how my dog would react in the wings of the hospital.  She had her therapy dog cape on and I was goofing around in town because I thought it would be a quick walkthrough so I did not need to be right on time.  So I got there late and low and behold, the volunteer worker had about 20 people in wheelchairs waiting for us.  I was completely unprepared for a show but pulled it off anyway.  They had helium balloons ready but no proper weights so they decided to fill those plastic hospital gloves with warm water and tie them to the end of balloons that they had filled with helium. Well Niki looked at those gloves with warm water and said "what do I do with these".  It was really funny.  But all in all everybody loved the show we put on with her training.  My daughter-in-law who is a LVN nurse and knits is going to knit lap blankets for people in wheelchairs and I will train Niki to take them to people and put them in their laps, what a fun project for the winter.  I am really happy about what we have for the future and a lot of fun.

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / Re: William Fox

Well, I cannot believe it myself.  I have been looking for quite awhile and I think I have found it.  William is a very lovable, and I mean lovable young man.  He looks  less than 2 years old and VERY smart so I know I can train him.  I threw the ball and he immediately brought it back and handed it to me.   I am truly in love with this animal.  We are planning a weeks vacation soon and his foster dad even agreed for our final pickup after we get back and graciously suggested he bring William out to our place to see how he likes it this weekend.  I am so excited.  Havent had a new dog in years and I am very PROUD he is a rescue that at one point was one day from being put down.  We will be good for each other. He is even prettier in person than the photos.

 ;D

Yes, good fences make good neighbors.  Here in Calif. almost all of us have fenced yards but when I visit the east coast it is often completely open between houses.  It looks nice but I do not know how people live without some privacy?  Their dogs really can't run.

Newfoundland Pictures / Re: Going through the "uglies"
« on: September 26, 2005, 03:37:42 pm »
No uglies on big cudly Bear, cuddle, cuddle, I love him.  I have seen so many photos of the big meet in L.A. but I really wanted to see some photos of the "people" that participated and other than great shots of Jamie (which we all love) no others.  Did anybody take shots of the other humans that were there?  If not, then next time I will actually bring my camera.

I have been in contact with William Fox's foster dad and he seems to be quite a loving and intelligent dog.  I can't wait because tomorrow I will meet him.  I am looking forward to working with him and will let you all know.  thanks
