I drew names and you were the lucky winner ;)
Here are the rules, in case anyone has forgotten: Ask as many questions as you want and the person in the hotseat will answer them individually, using the Reply with Quote link. Just to keep everything straight and not type forever and miss new posts. The person on the hot seat gets to pick the next person anytime after 10 on Sunday night.
I'll start! Please answer the following:
1. How old are you?
2. How much money do you make?
Hahah! Just kidding! Seriously though, Is there anything that you wouldn't do for Cowboy and Chester?

Hmmm. And I was SO nice to you in not asking probing questions!!!
Okay to the first two questions: 1) too old and 2) nothing!! I'm a housewife!!! ;D ;D
There's nothing I wouldn't do for Cowboy and Chester. They are as much a part of my family as my children, and as I tell the children often, I know where the dogs sleep on Friday and Saturday nights!!! :o

Where did you grow up?
Ever meet anyone famous?
Any bad habits we should know about? Or not know about? ;D

Where did you grow up?
Ever meet anyone famous?
Any bad habits we should know about? Or not know about? ;D
I grew up in Southern Calif....El Segundo and Long Beach.
Yes, I've met quite a few famous people ;D
Bad habits: too many to number!!! but I have a HORRIBLE sweet tooth! BPO! Addicted to my dogs and garden...but at least my dogs look good! I really try hard NOT to interfere in my adult kids lives...but sometimes I just can't help my self!!!
....and those are only the ones you can know about!!!
-
Fiest may I say that I love your dogs, and I greatly admire your positive attitude and all the devotion, care and hard work that has been given to Cowboy with his medical issues. That said, I was curious, do you have a medical background?
Stella
-
If you could turn back time...how far back would you go? and what would you do differently? and how?
-
do you have a medical background?
heheheh! Nope! The Newfs have taught me all I know about severe medical issues! I wish it wasn't true, but sadly, we've just had bad luck. Also, out of my four children, three were diagnosed with chemical depression (obviously an inherited gene) so I've been through the wringer a bit with drugs and treatments. Thankfully, they are all fine now!!!
And thanks for the kind words!
What attracted you to Newfs?
My husband and I have always had dogs who the whole family adored, but after having an Akita who was the most frightening dog I've ever had (would attack with NO warning....but wonderful with the family), I wanted the calmest, gentlest, sweetest dog I could find. After talking with several vets, reading books and then Newf owners, we found our dream dogs! ;D
If you could turn back time...how far back would you go? and what would you do differently? and how?
Tough question!!! Maybe do a "do-over"! I'd have far more confidence in my ability to deal with tough situations and wouldn't have been as controlled by dysfunctional people. I wouldn't have worried so much about my kids...and again, I guess I would have had to learn to trust my instincts that things were fine. Oh, and I would have had a Newf from the VERY beginning!! I've been incredibly fortunate in marrying my husband...who would have thought I could be so smart at 24?? and his confidence in me has been one of the main reasons for my growing up to be a person I'm pretty happy with. So I wouldn't change him!!
-
What do you consider to be one of your great accomplishment s in life?
What other type of dog would you own- if you couldn't have a Newf?
-
What do you consider to be one of your great accomplishment s in life?
All of my kids, of course. Two are out of school and self-supporting (yippee!!!) and the third graduates from college in May. I've been lucky that my three oldest came with a full "tool box". They are bright, talented and motivated. I'm most proud of the youngest, though. His "tool box" is incomplete. He has pretty substantial learning difficulties and in a family where everybody 'gets it', he's had such a tough time keeping up. But he graduated from a learning disabled high school and is now IN COLLEGE!!! He's actually, fingers firmly crossed here, doing fine! With him, we've learned to take it day-by-day so at least at this moment he's great! His older siblings have been so wonderful with him and have been SO supportive. I'm truly lucky!!
And the fact that Cowboy is still alive and doing well is huge!!! He went hiking with Chester and I yesterday for two hours and he kept right up! He's doing great!!
What other type of dog would you own- if you couldn't have a Newf?
I'd love to have an Irish Wolfhound or an a Scottish Deerhound and maybe a soft-coated Wheaten terrier.
-
So...how did you know your husband was "The One" and how did he propose?
-
If you had to choose would you rather:
1) Have a great kiss or cuddle all night long
2) Go see a movie or read a great book
3) Clean up doggy doo or doggy vomit
4) Clean slime off of the walls or clean the bathrooms
5) Carry a drool rag around or carry a small dog in your purse
6) Drink Coke or Pepsi
7) Eat chocolate or ice cream
8) Have 10 kids or 10 dogs
9) Live on the beach or in the snow
10) Have an annoying song stuck in your head all day long or sit by an annoying person on a plane
-
So...how did you know your husband was "The One" and how did he propose?
I wish it was a romantic story....but it's not. He's the least conventionally romantic person I know. He was just the best person to talk to...he actually listened and asked questions. It was never 'all about him'. I had dated a lot and he was the only man who was like that! And that's still the best part of our relationship.. .I was lucky enough to marry my best friend!
I've told my sons that the sexiest thing a man can do to a woman is listen. (probably the hardest too ::))
We lived together for three months....shoc king at that time!! (that was my limit..it was either going to work after three months or it wasn't) He came home from work one evening and handed me a box with a diamond engagement ring and said, "do you want it?" I had to question him to make sure it was actually an engagement ring and that was 30 years ago.
-
Hahahaha Mari! That is one of the cutest engagement stories I have ever heard. I love it!
-
Wow, Jaime...that a lot of questions!!! (Sunday night IS coming, however ::))
1) Have a great kiss or cuddle all night long.....easy, at this point in life, I love a good cuddle!
2) Go see a movie or read a great bookI always prefer reading!!! More detail!!
3) Clean up doggy doo or doggy vomitIck....but I guess it would be vomit!!
4) Clean slime off of the walls or clean the bathroomsSlime? what slime? There's no slime!!!
5) Carry a drool rag around or carry a small dog in your purse...are you kidding???
6) Drink Coke or Pepsi... I don't care too much, but I guess I like Pepsi best.
7) Eat chocolate or ice cream....Chocolate AND ice cream!!!
Cool Have 10 kids or 10 dogs...Depends on the kids and the dogs!!! How do you think I got so much grey hair?
9) Live on the beach or in the snow....I think I'd like to try the snow ;D!
10) Have an annoying song stuck in your head all day long or sit by an annoying person on a planegive me the song any day!

What is on your list of "must do's" in life?
-
What is on your list of "must do's" in life?
Besides the obvious "lose 20 pounds, read all of Proust, learn another language, exercise daily?"
I think mine are more mundane. I want to be a good friend to my husband, kids, family, friends; to be there when they need me and to know when to back away and let them figure it out. (TOUGH!!)
Keep my mind active by reading challenging and informative information (why do you think I spend so much time on BPO ;)?), travel to one new place a year (tough when you take Cowboy in to account!!) and learn to have patience ( a HUGE character flaw!)
-
What annoys you and grates on your nerves so badly you can't stand it?
-
Finish this statement:
It's always my luck
-
What annoys you and grates on your nerves so badly you can't stand it?
Can I pick more than one??
People who continue to make the same mistakes over and over and still whine about how their live are so messed up! (isn't that the definition of insanity? doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?)
People, and being from Los Angeles I'm surrounded by them, who think looks are more important than character: the Paris Hiltons of the world ::). Who want to be your friend because of what you have rather than who you are!
Finish this statement:
It's always my luck to sit to one of the above on an airplane!!!
-
do you dream in color or black and white?
-
Why did you copy my Username? J/K!!! ;D What would be your last meal?
-
do you dream in color or black and white?
I don't know!! Hmmm. I guess in color....
-
Why did you copy my Username?
hehehehe....'cuz you have such good taste!!! Sincerest form of flattery and all that!!! :D
What would be your last meal?
Start with a Hanger One Mandrin martini (or two...after all it's my last meal ;D) with proscuitto around a very ripe slice of cantalope and smoked salmon with finely chopped onion and capers on thinly sliced toasts.
Then a medium rare filet mignon with a fine old Bordeaux accompanied by pomme frites and haricot vert with toasted sliced almonds.
For dessert, a fresh raspberry tarte and a wee glass of a fine old single malt...
and then maybe a cheese course....with a bit more of that fine old single malt ;)!!!
...and then I'll just POP!!!
-
In my garden with the dogs or at our cabin with the dogs. Hmmm....sounds like a theme! ;D
-
What is one either fun, crazy or outrageous thing that you have done or would like to do... the one thing that would make your friends and/or family say "I'm surprised/impressed, I'd never have thought she'd..."?
-
Do you speak any other languages?
What is the most exotic place you've visited?
Where is the next place you'd like to visit?
-
What is one either fun, crazy or outrageous thing that you have done or would like to do... the one thing that would make your friends and/or family say "I'm surprised/impressed, I'd never have thought she'd..."?
After my sophomore year in college, I 'surprised' my family by buying a one way ticket to France and spending a year at the University of Grenoble. I had worked through high school and college and decided that I needed to grow up a bit. I had a wonderful time, skiied lots, have an adorable French boyfriend on the National Ski team, learned to speak bad French, drank lots of cheap wine. Came home, finished college the next year and went right back before I started work. Oh, those were the days!!
-
Do you speak any other languages?
See above.....bad French and now it's mixed with worse Spanish! ;D
What is the most exotic place you've visited?
South Africa, probably was the most exotic, although Panama is right up there!
Where is the next place you'd like to visit?
Darling husband and I are going with some British friends to Prague and Budapest in April to celebrate both of our 30th anniversaries

If you could be stranded anywhere in the world, where would you pick?
In your stranded place...
Which CD would you bring?
Which book?
Which food?
Which beverage?
Which companion?
What other item?
-
If you could be stranded anywhere in the world, where would you pick?
I love Ireland!!
In your stranded place...
Which CD would you bring?
*sheesh* here's where my geek factor kicks in...sorry guys! I love classical music: ANYTHING by Mozart, Telemann; most baroque music and early music with period instruments. My kids call it 'mental institution music' ;D
Which book?
If I only get one, I'd pick something meaty...like a dictionary or encylopedia. Couldn't get bored with that! :D
Which food?
Would I still gain weight??? :D If yes, an assortment of veg., if not, cookies!! (and chocolate)
Which beverage? EASY!!! Cappucinos and martinis!!!
Which companion? Again, easy!! darling husband! I'm never bored with him!
What other item? Finally the easiest question!!! NEWFIES!!!! ;D
-
Do you have a role model?
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
What's your fav book and movie??
-
Do you have brothers and sisters?
What do you think you will be doing in 10 years?
-
See Mari,
This is so much fun! You are getting such good questions to answer. ;D Here's one more. If we asked Cowboy & Chester about you, what would they say about their mom?
-
WHEW!!! I thought for sure after giving Bear so much h*ll from the last Hot Seat that I'd be Hot Seat #4. That was a close one!
1.) Do you believe everything happens for a reason or do you have any regrets?
2.) What's a quirk that if someone didn't adore you, would probably make them crazy? (I think I have several ;) )
3.) If you could only pick one - Beach or Mountains?
-
what's your favorite cliche?
what's your least favorite cliche?
-
OK, now for the hard questions...
Okay....back to it...this is HARD work! ;D
Do you fold or crinkle your toilet paper? Kind of a combination fold 'n crush!!
Do you leave the water running while you brush your teeth? I try not to...but sometimes I'm just bad!!! ::)
Paper or plastic? Plastic!!! We ALWAYS need poo-bags!!!
George Clooney or Brad Pitt? If I hafta, hafta hafta??? They are both too pretty, but I guess, if I hafta, George Clooney.... :P
Is your belly button an innie or an outie innie
Can you say the Greek alphabet three times before a match burns down? When I was in college, I could but that was when the dinosaurs roamed....so, sadly, no! ;D
What is your favorite word? I seem to make up words to fit a situation and right now it's pedaddle, as in 'quit pedaddling around and let's go' It seems to fit many situations...
I have some great swear words, but this is not the venue :o :o!
-
Do you have a role model? I've had different ones for different times in my life. Okay, don't laugh, when I was VERY young, it was Madame Curie (did much of the work on the use of radium), then it was my older sister (she is still a huge influence!) and then it was a funny woman who lived across the street from a friend who lived in Scotland...Lad y Lavender ;D! A very funny eccentric old thing. And now it's a woman who lived across the street from me. She just died late this summer, but she was always up-beat, positive and involved! I loved her!!
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? During the Madame Curie years, I would love to have been a chemist...but,unfortunately, I had no talent! ;D Later it was a psychologist and then finally ended up with a degree in business.
What's your fav book and movie?? It's just too hard to only pick one book!! All of Jane Austen's, and OHHH! yeah, The Once and Future King by T.H. White (the Camelot legend) is an all time favorite!
Movies, following a theme, the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth....can he be on my list?? ;D
-
Do you have brothers and sisters? Yes, I have a half sister who is 9 years older than I am. She basically raised me and has been a huge influence in my life. We are very close.
What do you think you will be doing in 10 years? hehehe....ya mean if I'm still alive? Hopefully still traveling occasionally, reading, digging in the garden and loving grands and Newfies!!!
-
This is so much fun! You are getting such good questions to answer. Grin Here's one more. If we asked Cowboy & Chester about you, what would they say about their mom?
"She's nuts!! Absolutely NUTS, but we know she loves us!!"
-
1.) Do you believe everything happens for a reason /color Yes. That's a huge lesson I've had to learn! Quit stressing and relax....'because everything happens for a reason'or do you have any regrets? Yes, of course I have a few regrets, but in the over-all scheme of things, I did the best I could with the information I had at the time. Regretting too much is such a waste of time! Can't do diddly-squat about it! ;D
2.) What's a quirk that if someone didn't adore you, would probably make them crazy? I think I have several Wink ) OHHHH HOOO!!! Me too!!! The worst is that I love to sing and can't carry a tune in a bucket!! Even when my kids were babes in arms when I'd sing them lullabys they'd ALL put their little wee hands up to cover my mouth!!! ;D
3.) If you could only pick one - Beach or Mountains? Since I've lived in Southern Calif. near the beach my whole life, I'd love to try the moutains!
-
what's your favorite cliche? What goes around comes around.
what's your least favorite cliche? I'm not getting any younger (DUH!!)
-
these are some awesome questions you all are asking Newflvr! had a ball reading the replies!
1) Window seat or aisle (on a plane)?
2) ever bungee jumped? would you?
3) have you went to any highschool reunions? if so are you glad you did? if not, wish you had of gone?
4) what kind of car do you drive?
5) night owl or morning person?
6) favorite all time sit com and why?
-
1) Window seat or aisle (on a plane)? Window seat!Â
2) ever bungee jumped? would you?Nope. There was a time in my life I certainly would have....but now I am sane! ;D!
3) have you went to any highschool reunions?  Yes.if so are you glad you did? Yes.  I have some very good friends who came from the same sort of very strange and dysfunctional background that I did and we still get together at least once a year for our own reunion. We've gone to reunions together, but wouldn't buy a ticket for the reunion, but did go for cocktails before ;D ;D) We all had a great dinner in a nearby restaurant!
4) what kind of car do you drive? A sort of minivan/station wagon that will hold two adult Newf males. A very special car that is protected by drool :D!
5) night owl or morning person? Let me rephrase the question for you and please don't be offended: Are your dogs night owls or morning dogs? Answer: my dogs are morning dogs so we are usually up by 5:30 unless they decide to get up earlier. UGH!!!
6) favorite all time sit com and why? I find 'Curb your Enthusiasm ' (Larry David's show on HBO) absolutely hysterical...h orribly uncomfortable!! but hysterical!
-
what's your favorite cliche?
what's your least favorite cliche?
Pardon me! You missed this one! So I'll add one to it!
If you won the big jackpot lottery...what would you do with all that money?
-
Although I have many pet peeves the insanity one is a biggie.....I just don't have the patience (it's a character defect of mine).
OK-- having read your replies I get the impression that stepping back and allowing the chips to fall where they might for your children is somewhat difficult for you. Here are my questions....
Have you ever interfered in allowing them to make their own decision (put your foot down so to speak)? If so what was the outcome? Please share as least one example where you couldn't say, "I told you so".
In life either you can go along willingly or fighting and screaming....w hat have you fought against?
And lastly -- free will or divine intervention?
-
I almost forgot my two favorites...
Do you play an instrument?
If ever on the Letterman show what would your "stupid human" trick be?
-
what's your favorite cliche?
what's your least favorite cliche?
Pardon me! You missed this one! So I'll add one to it!
If you won the big jackpot lottery...what would you do with all that money?
*ahmmm. Please look at response #43 :D :D :D :D :D I'd never miss one of your questions!!!
With the jackpot lottery, I'd probably give most of it to some sort of an animal rescue...maybe "Best Friends" in Utah where they rescue all animals.
-
Doh! I was skimming too fast. :) :) :)
-
Have you ever interfered in allowing them to make their own decision (put your foot down so to speak)?
Yes, but only in cases where the repercussions of a bad decision would drastically affect their life.
If so what was the outcome? My daughter matured very late (got her period at almost 18) and even though she was an intellectual equal at her high school, she needed a different environment to blossom. We tried to get her to change high schools but, her response was, " I don't want the bastards to win! I can stick it out!" She stayed at her high school and was miserable all four years.
Please share as least one example where you couldn't say, "I told you so".
She knew...she went in to a major depressive episode and anorexia not only from her genetic make-up but also because she had four years of fighting an uphill battle to fit in. She had a year or so of therapy, good drugs ;), and by that point, she had matured and had a glorius college career.
In life either you can go along willingly or fighting and screaming....w hat have you fought against?
A couple of things. My middle son is 'wired differently'. He's extraordinaril y bright in math and sciences and loves to invent things and his school couldn't deal with him. They saw him as being out of control (because he would see other ways to solve math problems, etc) I fought them for years to accept his differences and build on them. We eventually moved him (same saga as above...differ ent result) to a boarding school where they relished his mind and actually gave him a work shop and a place to do all the inventions he wanted. He's just about finished with his degee in engineering.
I came from an abusive childhood. My sister was physcially abused her whole life and for what ever reason, my mother knew to stay away from me. At one point when my sister was 20 and being beaten, I pulled my whole 11 year old body to it's full height and ordered my mother away from my sister. It never happened again.
And lastly -- free will or divine intervention?
A combination of the two. I truly believe that God give us the sense and ability to deal with things and we must work constantly to make our lives better. The example of jumping off the cliff comes to mind: Will God come out with His giant hands and brake the fall? Or did He give us the sense not to jump off the cliff in the first place?
-
Do you play an instrument?
HEAVENS!!! I would never abuse a muscial instrument that way! I have NO, ZERO, NONE muscial ability! NADA~
If ever on the Letterman show what would your "stupid human" trick be?
I can touch my nose with my tongue :o
