Chester is home and he's a very sad and deflated Chester
« on: March 21, 2006, 07:56:35 pm »
He is now officially neutered and he's obviously very sore. The vet sent home rimadyl with him for pain....have you ever heard of that before?  I've given the Newfs rimadyl for occasional arthritis or orthopedic surgery but never for spaying pain.

Anyway, all I can think about looking at him is that Winnie the Pooh story, "The Unbouncing of Tigger".  We've just had the unbouncing of Chester. :-[

Aww, welcome home Chester... you'll feel better soon. And suddenly, staying at home with the family will seem so much more appealing than it ever has before... suddenly you find yourself content to just stay at home... you no longer feel the urge to wander... you are feeling very relaxed and happy... happy Chester... feel your whole body relax...

I'm glad Chester is home and doing well. It will be no time before he is up and running again.

Rimadyl is a common pain reliever given for post-operative pain. Nothing that you would want to use long term though.

Hey Chester, think of it like this, all the fun and non of the consequences - if you can be bothered that is.

Ah well it is done now, all that is left is the healing.

I'm sure he'll be back to normal before you're ready!  I'd suspect the anesthesia bothered him more than the actual surgery.  Josh was neutered at age 10 (prostate problems) and was pretty much back to normal the next day.  I do hope all goes well and that he's back to his "Tigger"ish self soon!

Poor him!!  I'm thinking we should change his name to Lionel (as in Barrymore)  He's had his Rimadyl and he's at my feet whimpering and Cowboy's wrapped around him.

Awww poor Chester. All my boys have always been back to normal in a day or two. He'll be feeling like his old self again. Sadie sends a big slobbery Newf kiss (but watch out Chester - she was in the litter box again last night ;))
Dear Lord,
Just for today, let me be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

I bet Chester is acting like nothign even happened by today!...They do have a way of bouncing back quickly!...My vet offers Rimadyl for post surgery including neauter...I am undecided on that even though I've used it in the past...Studies have been done that show cats heal faster after surgery when given postop pain meds but I haven't seen any studies about dogs in such...A big part of me feels they shouldn't feel too good so they don't overdue it...How is Chester today?

Don't worry Chester, another day and you'll feel all better.  Boo was given Duramaxx for pain after the spay.  I'll be honest though, I don't think they were pain meds but "naughty" drugs because now a week after her surgery she's been in nothing but trouble!!!  Tomorrow you'll be wondering how to keep him still  ;D
