I've been gone from BP for some time, but am asking everyone if I may rejoin the group. Is it ok? I have missed reading the posts and antics of all the much-loved furbabies living w/you.
I was Petra's mommy, and she has since crossed the Bridge and I have her ashes sitting beside my precious Lady and Katie (my danes who crossed before her.) Although I really tried w/Petra and had some unfortunate incidents occur while she was w/me, I still miss her.
I have 2 dogs now, Greta, a mountain cur/greyhound mix and a small dog, Wags and he is a min. pin./terrior mix. I adopted them from the local shelter. I had intended to get Wags alone, but they told me about Greta going to be euthanized. She had been at the shelter a very long time, they had no space for incoming pets, and she'd been found abandoned in a back yard w/one live and one dead puppy. She had very saggy teats and no one wanted a dog who looked like her.
Welllll, I wasn't going to let them euthanize a perfectly sweet dog because of a defect she and I share (I could relate) so she also came home w/me. Yesss...I am a sucker for the "underdog."
I am also fostering a Great Dane/Yellow Lab mix. Her name is Roxy. She too was scheduled for euthanization (the shelter is NOT a no-kill shelter) and the shelter manager asked me if I would be interested in keeping her alive.
She had been at the shelter for longer than the limit of 2 months, had been adopted 2 times (another requirement for euthanasia - 2 strikes and your out) and brought back each time. The previous adoptees had kept her in a crate all day while they worked and only let her out to relieve herself. The other family had a small child that Roxy got too playful w/and they complained that she was viscious!
She is just very high energy and had never been on a leash. Since she has gotten daily walks, good, healthy food (she was very thin) and training in basic obedience, she is just the most wonderful pet. She is just a big loveable lug.
After Petra, having so many loving and wonderful dogs surrounding me, I am again enjoying myself w/my babies. They are all wonderful and respond to my leadership very well.
