I came home from work about 10:30 tonight and was met at the door with "Bad news. Oasis, Lulu and Buster got out of the backyard." We haven't left Oasis in the backyard unattended or monitored for about 2 years because he had been persistantly chewing thrrough the wood fence on the neighbor's side and getting out.
He was out in the backyard all day yesterday while I peeked out at him about every 15 minutes and never went near the fence. I guess that's why Johann let him out again today. But, he didn't check on him and he reverted to his old ways.
Lulu had run around and scratched at the front door to be let in. I found Buster right away about 4 houses down. He came right to me and is fine. I drove around for about an hour looking for Oasis. When he has gotten loose before he usually wanders up to the apartments on the next street and goes dumpster diving or looking for handouts. He's not there. No one in the neighborhood (our neighborhood is only 2 streets with woods on each side, a big empty lot at the end of the streets and a busy highway at the front) has seen him and we drove up and down the highway on both sides of the bayou with no sign of him.
I don't know if he went wandering off in the woods and is disoriented, if someone at the apartments took him in for the night, or what else could have happened to him. I can't imagine he could have gone far because his arthritis has been bad lately and he is limping a lot and finds it hard to get up after lying down.
I'm so worried and there will be no celebrating this new year's eve. Please say a little prayer that he will return safely.

Oh no. This is terrible news :-\ I am so sorry to hear Oasis is missing. I hope that he is safe and will be home soon.
-
Please let us know when he returns!
-
Oh No!!! Dang Old man wandering syndrome, Our sheltie would wander off like that too when he got older. I hope Oasis is ok and somewhere safe tonight. He will probably show up before you know it.
-
You must be frantic - what a way to start the year! Hope it's just 2005's last bite before it's put to sleep for good and Oasis turns up safe and sound.
-
Jeanne, please tell us your baby is back home safe in your arms this morning.

Is Oasis back yet? What a scary thing to go through! Prayers, good-returning-home-thoughts and all paws and fingers crossed here!!!

I hope that your baby is home and safe Jeanne. You are in our thoughts and prayers!

I went out looking for him this morning - drove around the block twice, drove up and down the highway again, checked the neighborhood on the other side of the woods, got out and walked all through the woods....
No sign of him anywhere and no one I talked to had seen him either. It's weird. Usually, someone will have at least seen him running around. I saw some paw prints about his size in the mud behind the house when I went to go look in the woods, but Rocko and I had gone back there the other day so I couldn't be sure they weren't his.
I'll put some posters up today and an ad in the paper tomorrow, I guess. I'm sure someone must have picked him up or taken him in or he would have been home by now.
-
I hope you find him safe and sound. I will pray for you, and Dibby will help too :)

I just remembered that someone had posted a link on here a while back for a group that is dedicated to helping find lost dogs. Jeanne, you should read through the site and see if any of it can help you: http://www.lostdogsearch.com/

I'll be praying that he makes a swift and safe return. Let's hope someone just picked him up and is trying to find you as well.

All paws are crossed over here!
Oasis it's time to come home now!!!
-
I hope Oasis comes home soon. It must be really hard for you to worry about him all this time.
Do read that website on finding a lost dog. I had forgotten all about it, but it has lots of important information.
Let us know how he is doing when you find him.
-
Any news yet? I sure hope Oasis is ok somewhere right now.
Lost dog signs are definitely worth every bit of the effort! One of my dogs was lost after a camping trip several years ago and I managed to find her after a week of her wandering around the north Georgia mountains, all because of signs that I posted!
Good luck! Stay safe, Oasis!!!!

We had a doberman male take off after a deer once, and it took him a week to get back home. We had everyone we knew pray that he would come home safe. He was a big red male, and it was the beginning of deer hunting season, and I was scared to death every second that he was gone. I hope that Oasis either is being held by someone who thinks he is a stray and you will find him, or will wonder back home on his own soon! I will pray for his return---it cant hurt.

He's still not home and my stomach is in knots, but I'm POSITIVE someone must have him. I called my vet to let them know in case someone calls the phone number on his vet tag. I found his I.D. tag in the yard - must have come off as he was squeezing through the hole. The hole he made on the other side of the neighbor's yard to get out of their yard is only about 8 inches in diameter! I swear I don't know how he squeezed through it!
I'm putting an ad in the paper and tried calling the shelter this morning, but it's a state holiday so they are not there.
Thanks for all the encouragement and prayers. With your help, I'm sure he'll come home soon.
I found a bunch of his fur in the yard from the last time I "plucked" him so I picked some of that up and put it in a safe place, just in case...

Im sorry to hear he is still not home, but sometimes it is just really hard to get the one who lost and the one who found to find eachother, I am sure now when we are back to normal days again, it will get easier and you will have him home before you know it :D

Jeanne,
So sorry to hear about Oasis. I lost my Turk once. She slipt out of the door unnoticed. Some neighbor children were terrorizing her a block away. The college students that lived on the same block took her from them. I believe they intended to keep her. Anyway, a week later she still wouldn't eat for them, so they checked the newspaper, saw my lost ad and returned her.
I am certain you'll find him.

Well, I called the shelter and the newspaper this morning. I'm taking tomorrow off so I can hang up posters and run around to all the vets. Hopefully, someone will call the number on his vet tag today. I notified them yesterday that he was lost, but maybe whoever found him didn't think they were open yesterday.
Keep your fingers crossed. I really miss him.
