I'm so sorry!  They are absolutely adorable pups.  I do hope that this turns out better than you fear and I will definitely pray for you and him.  I do believe God is concerned with every little thing that concerns us and He knows how much we love our pups.

That is wonderful!  What a great combination - dogs and nursing/rehab homes!  Hope it works out for him AND for the residents!  I wish more such homes would be open to having a pet living there with the residents.  It would be so great for the people and the dogs.

We do something similar to a petting chair with our 8 mo old Lab pup.  I make him sit for his attention and then get down to his level to give it to him.  Coming home time/morning time are a challenge for sure but if I give him the cold shoulder and tell him to sit, he gets the picture pretty quick.  Good to be teaching it now rather than dealing with a 150 lb dog jumping on you!

I should not have looked again!  Goodness, he's cute!  I'm not really trying to look for another dog yet but the other part of me keeps looking.   Would the owners consider an LGD home for him or do they strictly want a pet home?  I really want another LGD but I'm not sure I'm ready.  I have 4 dogs in the house right now, 3 of them are antiques.  Anything I get MUST be outside full time.  How has the dog reacted to the tormenting by the kids?  Has it made him aggressive?  We have TONS of kids who visit and while I monitor all visiting kids closely, I would hate to have a past experience cause him to react negatively to kids.  My LGD space is about one acre fenced with cattle panels - 4' high, maybe a bit higher - very heavy fencing.  I like to walk dogs and try to walk daily.  Below is Thor's page which would be the setup/"work" for any dog that would come here.  I mostly need a dog that will do the LGD bark at night.  A friendly walking companion would be a bonus.  The birds are fenced separately from the dog and the dog only walks amongst the birds if I know they are trustworthy.

Ok, my first try at posting a pic.  Devil Spawn, I mean Eider, tore apart the dryer vent the other day.  I've had Labs for YEARS and never had one that can find the trouble this one can!!!!!!!!  He's really not a bad pup, he's just more chewy than any other Lab I've ever owned (and I've owned quite a few).

What makes them think he'd be happier in a different home?  Is he a house dog that wants to be an LGD?  The other way around?  Not getting enough attention at home?

Well, let's see...how can I put this?  You can pry Baloo out of dh's cold, dead fingers...   ;D

Oh, he has also decided he is the "keeper of the doors"....and lays across them so you have to kill yourself to get into a room...

Ooooohhhhhh!  That's great!  Glad to hear that DH has gotten the right priorities ;)

As for the doors, that is SUCH a Pyr trait!  They want to be sure they don't miss anything coming or going.  I miss my big dust mop across the door.

So how is it going lately?  This fella and his story have captivated me so I'm wondering how it is working out.  Has he found his new forever home?

My rescue experience was the opposite.  I was 11 hrs away but the rescue group I worked with bent over backwards to get me the perfect dog.  My local group would NOT at that time place a Pyr in a working situation.  They've mellowed a little on that stance since then.  I suspect part of the reason the other group was willing to help me was because I wrote the longest e-mail in history explaining everything from my past experiences to my past dogs to my current setup, my philosophy on dogs, what I wanted...  Basically I told them everything I could think of.  They broke a pile of their rules and gave me one of the most amazing dogs I think I'll ever own in my life.   My local group has recently not been willing to let me foster because I wouldn't have the Pyr inside.  I do understand that a house raised Pyr would not be happy outdoors but there are a LOT of Pyrs who are not happy indoors and would rather be out there guarding like they were bred to do!  I spent a lot of time daily with my Pyr walking him, petting him, brushing him despite the fact that he was primarily outdoors.  He came in a few times a week but he was mostly an LGD (and the love of my life).  I'm available to foster now but they don't seem to think that is an appropriate situation.  Well fed, well cared for, loved, excercised, secure fencing, but not indoors.  They still seem to think that a working situation is not as good as an indoor situation despite the fact that the breed was designed to work.  Personally, I truly believe that some Pyrs will not be happy until they can work.  Our male was happy to be in the house when it was daytime but when the sun went down, he HAD to be out there prowling.

My first post but this one is my life right now so I guess it is a good place to start.  We just buried my best beloved buddy, Thor.  We own our own property and have been here 17 yrs so it is a great option for us.  Two labs and one puppy dog cow are buried on this property out in the pasture under an old oak tree.  Thor is buried between two large pine trees and I'll plant a blue spruce over him this spring.  While we had the backhoe here, we dug 3 holes since we have a lot of old dogs around and winter was coming at that point.  We buried our first Lab a number of years ago in January and it took hours to dig the hole with a backhoe because the ground was so frozen.  At this point, if we dug extra holes now, the rest would survive another year or more.  If we didn't dig while the backhoe was here, we'd be digging again in Jan/Feb.  Unfortunately that is the reality when you live with really old dogs.  The first died unexpectedly at age 11 and it was tough.  Thor was tough too since he was so young and so dear to me.  We had a chocolate Lab die a year or so ago at age 14 who was as healthy as could be up until the day before she died so it was hard to mourn too long.  We just celebrated the long life she had.  Piper is there too at age 13.5.  Every day is a bonus at this point.  Josh and Jesse were farm dogs for 7 years so they are very old 11s and could go at any time as well.
