: Stupid people making stupid life a stupid living h*ll
: Anky September 07, 2005, 03:17:26 PM
Today just keeps getting suckier and suckier.  Job hunting blows and I'm behind on my car payments.  Well today I put Sanity out on the Cable run.  He's been taking off when I let him out, so we've been putting him on a run.  Well the seven year old from next door, (tenants on the other side of the duplex my grandparent's own) who has had NOTHING to do with him before, never even petted him or anything, decided she was going to take him for a walk.  She took gift ribbon tied one end around his neck and the other around her wrist and took him off the run.  Well of course he takes off, and drags her around, she rips her chest and chin up on the asphalt on the driveway and the gravel inthe culvert, not to mention that her wrist was cut up from the ribbon.  I heard the ruckus (I was upstairs faxing stuff for jobs) andgo running to see what was going on and as soon as I got to the window the kid realized what was going on and starts screaming.  As soon as Sanity hears her, he stops and starts to lick her.  Apparently this is where the mother looks and sees Sanity "Attacking" her daughter.  She freaks out says that she's going to sue us, that Sanity's vicious and shouldn't be allowed around people, blah blah.  I couldn't even deal with her because I would just make it worse.  I call Sanity to me and I see his neck is all ripped up from the F***ing ribbon.  I'm so furious right now.  I can't believe that this kid can be this obnoxious and my dog is supposed to suffer for it?

ARGHHHHHHHHHHH HHH

Ang it's really hard for me not to feel sorry for the little girl because it sounds like she's really hurt and well... I have a daughter so my motherly feelings kick in, but then I think...... hey my daugher would never do such a stupid thing to begin with!!  I'm sorry you had a crappy day.  Hopefully Nee's not to tremendously traumatized by it and hope his neck heals soon.  Give him big hugs and kisses from me! :-*  And I'll keep my fingers crossed that the stupid parents don't take any further action or cause problems for you.

Honey don't feel bad about feeling bad for her.  She is a child, and if her mom wasn't being so anal about it it would be a different story.  It was a kid being stupid, as we've all been at one time or another but her mom took it to a whole new and evil level.

Andi, I have kids too, and I can sympathize to some degree with the little girl, as I do with my own when they hurt themselves, even through their own stupidity.
But at the same time I have to ask, where was the concerned parent when this little girl is wandering around, and hasn't anyone ever taught her that if it isn't yours and you don't ask, you don't touch it? When do people take responsibility for their own (and Children's) actions?
If they choose to press the issue, I would have plenty of pictures of Sanity's injuries as well, after all, their child cause the problem by taking Sanity off of the run, and had they controlled their child the injuries to niether of them would have taken place.

Yeah, I feel bad for the little girl AND for Sanity.  I can understand how the mom might have panicked at first, but it seems like once she noticed the ribbon around Sanity's neck, she might have clued in to what happened.

Ang, maybe when everyone has calmed down, you should check with the mom to see how the little girl is doing?  I know you hate her right now, but it might be a nice "good will" gesture.

If she is still ranting about how Sanity is the Evil Killer Dog from H*ll, then maybe you two can have a nice, calm, rational conversation about how it was an accident, how HER child untied YOUR dog, how your dog was injured as well, etc.?

I'm sorry this happened - Sanity didn't do it on purpose!

I feel bad for you, Sanity & the little girl though, I'm sorry if this upsets anyone, it's a hard lesson learned for her...I am certain my almost 7 & 8 yr. old would never do that because they've been taught to not only respect other people's stuff but animals too...I hope this blows over but I'd take pics of Sanity's neck & write everything down that happened so you don't forget anything in case anything comes of it!

I'm w/ Jacksmom, what kind of mother leaves her 7 year old unsupervised long enough for this to happen.  The kid did a dumb thing and I'm sure the moment she released Sanity from his run she realized what a mistake she made.  My children were always taught never to approach any animal alone, especially a dog they have never been socialized to that was tied in his own yard.  I don't know about dumb people but this mother sure is a dumb person!!! I think she reacted that way to cover up her own negligence!!!

I have been in a situation before where the little kid next door started letting herself into my fenced yard without asking. She was always outside playing by herself, I don't know who was responsible for her, but when I realized what was going on I just couldn't leave my dogs outside unsupervised anymore. Not only could my dogs easily plow her over (out of joy) but also they could have gotten right past her out the gate and headed for the hills! I had to tell that little girl myself that it is very rude (not to mention dangerous) to go into someone else's yard without being invited. I don't live there anymore but I know the people who moved in have several pit bulls, and all I can do is hope she learned her lesson! And I hope those dogs like children!

I hope you can work it out with the neighbor, that is a really hard situation to be in.

I have been in a situation before where the little kid next door started letting herself into my fenced yard without asking.
That's why we have padalocks on all of our gates...I know someone could still climb the fence but we have done everything we can to keep people out that aren't invited in!

What a horrible situation.  The girl, and her mother, are lucky there weren't more serious injuries, not only to the girl, but to Sanity as well.

I don't think the mother would have any kind of a case if she did decide to do something.  Jacksmom said it very well.  For the first two points alone, there would be no case.

I also cannot believe a child so young is allowed to wander the neighborhood.  I see it all the time here.......... ...kids are everywhere unsupervised.  I've almost ran over several playing in the street.  One little girl, about 5 yrs old came right up to my car to see the dogs as I was backing out of the driveway!!!  I don't know what is going thru some parent's minds these days.

What a terrible story! I am sorry that happened to you and Sanity. I feel sorry for the little girl, but I don't feel sorry for the mother; a responsible parent wouldn't have let this happen, and a good person's mind would have been focused on healing everyone's wounds, not jumped straight to 'how can i profit from this'.

I hope Sanity feels better  :-\

I want to thank all of you for your well wishes.  I thought I'd give you all an update.  The little girl has road rash on her chest and stomach and 7 stitches in her chin.  Sanity's neck isn't that bad.  He only had a tiny cut but the ribbon smeared the blood everywhere.  Everything that everyone says about me calming down and talking to them is probably right.  It's just not gonna happen for a while.  Because I'm livid and if I see that worthless woman any time in the near future I'll be flossing my teeth with her windpipe.

Seven years old is very, very young still. I'm not angry with the child. Your dog was is definatly not to blame. Sucks that he will be judged just on his breed and not his temperment alone.

But that mother. I'm sorry, I'm furious about that. In some sick and twisted way I sure hope she tries to sue. Not because I want you dragged to court but I want HER @ss in court. Let her try to explain to the judge just what SHE was doing while her child was entering someone else's yard, unhooking someone else's property and so on. Chances are, the system will slap her with child neglect. And I hope it does.

She couldn't take this as a lesson. Just like any dog owner knows, a bord dog is a destructive dog.  A child with nothing to do, finds trouble too. Pffft...box of crayons, a coloring book, and 30 minutes of mommy-n-me time may have prevented this.

I should add something more---

I have six children. I'm by far not a "Super Mom". I burn dinners, I can't always get grass stains out of jeans and make them wear  those stained up, hole in the knees jeans anyway, I don't know how to sew anything other then buttons back on  shirts, none of my kids play socker (they play hocky, roller blade, skateboard, bike,  and football in the field behind our house), I don't have time to volunteer to much time at school so the teachers look shocked when I finally do show up for something, ect ect. In essence, I'm not the ideal mother--
If this was one of my children I'd be completly and utterly embaressed. Not embaressed with my child but myself. I'd feel ashamed that I allowed it to happen at all.

I guess I just don't understand how this woman dosn't feel ashamed, what so ever.

Not only would I have appologized to you, but I'd have most likely purchased a dog toy and me,along with my child  would return to bring you the "gift". Plus,  it would be theroputic for the little girl (besides a valuable lesson on respecting other people's property). Imagine this child might have a phobia of dogs in the future.

Yay!  Petrock!  :)  Things are looking better today, we have a lawyer, who says that apparently this woman has a history of being sue happy, so that alone helps.  A head hunter called today, saw my resume on Monster and has several openings for me.  That's always nice, and my whopping unemployment check comes in today!!!!!!!!! ($54) so I can get gas!  I'm still furious at that woman, and it's not going to go away any time soon, but I'm not in deep dark loathing funk anymore.  OH and I should be getting DSL at the dial up house on the 15th!!!!!!!  YAY!!

OK, call me insensitive or maybe it's 'cause I don't have kids, but I don't feel sorry for the little girl at all. this is how we learn lessons and hopefully she'll learn that you don't approach strange dogs and you certainly don't take them off their run unless you ASK THE OWNER FIRST!

Unfortunately, what she'll probably learn is that if you do something wrong and get hurt because of it you can sue someone, get a lot of money and buy a new bike.

Kudos to you for consulting a lawyer. They were 100% in the WRONG! I don't think I could bring myself to make the first move to smooth things over. I'd be furious, too.

And congrats on the job opportunities.

The little girl down the street used to have a habit of walking into my yard to play with the dogs anytime they were out.  Everytime which was about everyday, I would tell her not to come in the yard.  She only let Rocco out once but once is enough with that dork, he runs so you chase him but you can't not chase him because there are alot of streets and tied out dogs.  I put a lock on my gate and she started jumping the fence until one day Rocco ploughed her and started dragging  her around by her ankle.  He was playing but she wasn't.  After I let her have it that time she now comes to the door to ask to play.  I always say no but she keeps asking.

P. Daddy - lol so very funny with the pics...love them.

Ang - Congrats on the job offers...I am glad you consulted a lawyer.  Hopefully it won't go thar far, but it sounds like this woman likes to go to court so it is a possibility.  I agree that 7 yrs old is young to be motoring around the neighborhood and unhooking dogs etc etc.  My kids didn't even know what the frontyard looked like until they were probably in the 7th grade... I see kids all the time, here in Vegas, out at all hours without supervision... some are little kids..... I would be completely embarrassed and apologetic if it had been my kid that had done the same thing.
: Teach your parents well....
: WhiteShepherdDog September 08, 2005, 12:16:17 PM
Maybe a constitutional amendment for common sense? ;)

#1: Parents: Teach your children NOT to approach any dog without prior permission from the adult owner.

#2: Children:Never approach a dog without asking to; just because a dog is in public does not give you the right to touch it.

#3: Dog owners: Protect your dog by a.) having it with you or b. ) containing it safely in private away from public access
-------------------------------------------------
Even if this dog was in a fenced area - still unsupervised- the "public" could poison, torment or otherwise harm your dog.

It is the responsible pet owner's job to keep the dog away from the public, as well as keep the public away from the dog. I think this is about supervision of our dogs, too.
Most dogs would rather be with the owner, lying at their feet, wouldn't they than tied down?
IMHO

Ummmm I don't know if you're talking to me, but my dog is with me practically on a constant basis.  He gets tied out for MAYBE 10 minutes at a time a few times a day because we don't have a fence, and he's starting not to come when called.  (He just turned 1 so he's rebelling)  We working on this with training, but until he can be fully trusted we're putting him on a run.  I would walk him on the leash but he refuses to poop with me there, so the run, until now has worked.

This dog is my life, as previously stated, and he's spoiled beyond all reasonable measures.  I just want to make sure that no one is under the impression that he's an out door dog in any way shape or form, or that he is frequently thrown out there un supervised.  Most of the time when he is out there I watch him from the door and when he's done I go to get him.  I'm sorry that I didn't foresee what was going to happen.  I went to fax something.  Took me about 40 seconds.  I didn't forsee a hellion coming over to comandeer my dog.

ALSO I don't know if you read the whole post or just skimmed this but this happened in a duplex that my grandparents own.  It's a communal yard, seperated by maybe 10 feet of privacy fence between the two patios.

I took pics of the yard from my window.  Starting from the left side (The side yard is large but not inluded in these) which is our side, and moving to their side on the right.  Also I'm showing a picture of the dividing fence.
