: newflvr November 20, 2005, 12:36:13 PM
I am certainly happy to be out of the hot seat and happy to turn it over to the next person!!!
Now that you are there, Jeanne, I have just a few  ;D questions for you:

What is your favorite Thanksgiving tradition?   Christmas?

What's on your nightstand right now (G - ratee  :o)

What's your favorite book?
: Re: Hot Seat #5.......jjfritsche (Jeanne)!!!! Have fun!
: Scootergirl November 20, 2005, 12:50:16 PM
Wow! I'm honored. Hmm... let's see...

Favorite Thanksgiving tradition: has to be going to my Grandma and Grandpa Jensen's house when I stilled lived at home in Omaha. This is my step-grandparents, but I never felt any less a part of the family. Grandma would make all the traditional stuff and we had the typical get together - adults at one table, kids at the "kiddie table", men watching football afterwards, etc. The kids would go in the basement to explore and play games. Just your typical warm, family get together. (except for perverted uncle who always gave us the "creepy eye", but that's another story)

Christmas: man, Christmas was such an awesome time growing up. Again we'd go to Grandma's and have even more goodies (she makes incredible desserts) and Dad would make pies and kuchen, but I think my favorite tradition and one my husband and I still practice today is that on Christmas eve, my family would always to eat at Burger King before going to the Christmas Eve service. We started this one year 'cause we were running late and nothing was open except Burger King. No one was there except us and the employees told us that if they didn't get any more customers after a certain time they would get to go home early. So, since then, we've made it a point to ruin their night! Hee Hee!!!

What's on my nightstand: aromatherapy diffuser that I never use, kleenex, cell phone charger, reading lamp, various reciepts and change that have been empited out of my pockets before getting ready for bed, cordless phone and magazines.

Favorite book: (this is easy) "Where the Red Fern Grows" by Wilson Rawls. I still read this book at least once a year and I still cry every time. I've been doing this since I was about 12.  All Harry Potter books run a close second.

Sadly, I haven't a clue. I've never really been a big New Year's Eve person. We'll probably just make a campfire in the backyard and make smores and watch other people's fireworks while trying to keep the dogs out of the fire and the marshmellows!

: Scootergirl November 20, 2005, 01:19:22 PM
Oh my! There's been so many  ::)

The first thing that ever pops to my mind when someone asks me this is when I was in 4th grade. I was in the library at school and had to go to the bathroom, but at my school you needed this special yellow pass to walk down the hall if classes were in session. My pass said I could go to the library, but not the bathroom. Well, the librarian wasn't around to give me another pass and I waited as long as I could, then realized a little too late I couldn't wait any longer. I remember left a little train from the checkout counter to the little girls room. Everything after that I've blocked out from my memory.

Aren't you glad you asked?

I think we'll be living in Minnesota. Hopefully, Johann will be driving for the local company up there, I'll either be managing a nearby Starbucks or completing my second best-selling novel and running a private, non-profit animal shelter and wildlife rehabilitation center on the property.

Best Feature: smile

Favorite Day of the Week: any day I don't have to work (working 2 jobs sucks!)

coffee: well, I work at Starbucks, so I guess that tell you about everything. My favorite coffee there is Gazebo Blend, the new Christmas Blend and Cafe Verona.  My favorite Starbucks drink is: Grande, sugar-free vanilla and almond (tastes like amaretto), organic latte or blended strawberry lemonade with whip cream blended in.

Favorite fruit?  Vegetable?

What is the meanest thing you have ever done?

What is your favorite gemstone?

What's your sign?

favorite fruit: bing cherries

favorite vegetable: corn

meanest thing I've ever done: what kind of question is that?? I'm an angel. It is beyond me to do anything mean. Seriously, though, the first thing that pops to mind is when I was in college. There was a girl on my floor (Rachel) whose dad had died not long before she started college. My roommate was in her room one night when my roomie's dad called her. I went down the hall to tell theresa that her dad was on the phone. She said, "My dad?" Not thinking before I opened my stupid mouth, I said, "no. Rachel's dad." Poor Rachel looked at me with this horrified face then burst out crying and ran from the room. I've never felt so mean and stupid in my life.

Favorite gemstone: I have a moonstone ring I bought at an antique store and it is so cool. I love it. I also like amber (although that's not really a gemstone).

Sign: stubborn bull - Taurus

If you could have just one wish what would it be?

Honestly, I just wish I could pay off everything I owe - and it's really not much. I would love to go one whole year without any bills. So, anyone with an extra, say, $150,000 that's becoming a burden for them, I'd be happy to take that off your hands.

bills are the biggest headache for me. Everyone always wants them to be paid on time. What about MY time??

Are you spiritual?

I guess that depends on how you define spiritual. I definitely believe in God, but I also like to learn about other religions. I believe there are a lot of things we can't explain. I'm fascinated by native american religions and how they mirror Christian stories and beliefs. I can see parallels in the Wiccan religion and love the harmony of nature and spirituality. I loved going to church when I was growing up and the only reason I don't go now is because I am lazy and am afraid I won't like any other church as much as i liked my home church. That's a stupid excuse I know, but I feel like you don't have to be in a church to worship or pray.

1.)  If you could have on hour to speak with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

2.)  What is the one quirk that you have that people must find endearing or it would drive them bonkers?

3.)  Girlie Girl, Tomboy, or a mixture of both?
: Re: Hot Seat #5.......jjfritsche (Jeanne)!!!! Have fun!
: Scootergirl November 21, 2005, 11:34:28 AM
1.)  If you could have on hour to speak with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

Boy, that's a toughie. If I have to pick someone living, I think it would either be J.K. Rowling - because I love her books and am in awe of her intricate creativity and how she started with nothing and created an empire; or Billy Joel - because I LOVE HIM!!

If I could theoretically speak with anyone from history, I would choose Martin Luther King, Jr. to talk to him about his courage and drive and how he could keep his faith in something he believed in so deeply when so many around him were trying to persecute and defame him.

2.)  What is the one quirk that you have that people must find endearing or it would drive them bonkers?

Believe me, I have a lot of quirks. I don't know if any of them are endearing, but a lot of them drive people bonkers. I have a tendency to correct the english of those around me. I fail to understand how someone can be so unaware of the proper way to use their native language. I also force people to say "please" and "thank you" - especially kids. This has become a lost courtesy and if their parents aren't going to teach them good manners then I will.

3.)  Girlie Girl, Tomboy, or a mixture of both?

Definitely Tomboy! I've always been a tomboy. My husband hates that I don't wear dresses and lipstick all the time, but I tell him that I wouldn't get the great reaction out of him that I do when I DO decide to dress up if I looked like that every day!!

: Re: Hot Seat #5.......jjfritsche (Jeanne)!!!! Have fun!
: Scootergirl November 21, 2005, 01:08:30 PM
When I was a junior in High School, I played on our church softball team. One afternoon, we were having practice and I was in the outfield. I went to catch a pop-fly and lost the ball in the sun. I moved my glove for 2 seconds and...

WHAM!

the ball hit me right in the eye!!

My dad, who had been playing catcher, ran over to me and with much love and concern asked me immediately, "Is your contact still in?" (Remember, this was before disposable contacts when each lens cost about $150.00)

My eye swelled up immediately and turned all sorts of colors. The next day, I wore some large sunglasses to school. I refused to take them off. My English teacher asked me, "Jeanne, why are you wearing sunglasses."

"I have a black eye," I told him.

"Jeanne, take off the sunglasses."

"You really don't want me to do that."

"Jeanne, take off the sunglasses in my class."

"Oooooo Kaaaayyy". I took off my sunglasses and looked at him with my horribly disfugured face.

"Jeanne, put the sunglasses back on."

: Re: Hot Seat #5.......jjfritsche (Jeanne)!!!! Have fun!
: Scootergirl November 21, 2005, 01:19:01 PM
Oh! It was hilarious, actually. At first, he thought my sunglasses were going to be a distraction (they were hot pink), then he decided my eye would be even more of a distraction - especially for him, probably because he would have to stare at it the whole time.

First of all it's "insatiable"!

Actually, he was kind of a jerk, but I enjoyed his class for the most part. My most memorable teacher was my journalism teacher in high school. Mrs. Peterson. She was great. She pretty much let us get away with murder if we were on the newspaper or yearbook staff (I was newspaper - reporter, then sports editor, then Ed. in Chief), but she taught us a lot, too and she was always there for us.

The other teacher who really made an impact on me in high school was, ironically, Mr. Pedersen (no relation), the psychology teacher. He looked like a cross between John Malkovich and Carrot Top and was goofy and fun, but really taught us all a lot about ourselves and interpersonal relatonships and how to handle conflict, etc.

My spelling stinks....my copyediting professor in college was always yelling at me for that.  :(  I'm an old dog and can't learn new tricks.  :)
Psychology was great too...aren't all Psych teachers a little goofy anyway.
What kind of "imbalances" did you discover in Psych class?
: Re: Hot Seat #5.......jjfritsche (Jeanne)!!!! Have fun!
: Scootergirl November 21, 2005, 03:37:29 PM
Well, High School psych was pretty basic. College psych was a little more involved. I was originally going to major in psychology, but after my freshman year, i changed my major to Communications .

People who know me tend to naturally ask me for advice and I didn't think having people come to me for advice would be as rewarding if I was getting paid for it. I didn't want it to become a chore.

Does that make any sense?
: Re: Hot Seat #5.......jjfritsche (Jeanne)!!!! Have fun!
: lins_saving_grace November 21, 2005, 03:42:55 PM
yes it makes sense.  sounds like me.  I was a pshyc major for 2 years then went into communications .   I discovered I had too many schizophrenia's and nuerological misfirings to help people.  :)   I think I diagnosed myself as Hebephrenic once.
So...What historical event would you absolutely love to cover?
and do you buy the Warren Report and believe in the "Magic Bullet" theory or do you think there was more than one shooter on this day 42 years ago when Kennedy was shot?  (Can't believe it was that long ago already)  I always wanted to become an investigative reporter and break the Warren Commission completely open.
: Re: Hot Seat #5.......jjfritsche (Jeanne)!!!! Have fun!
: Scootergirl November 21, 2005, 04:03:32 PM
hmmm.. historical event I would love to cover.... I'm going to have to say the Civil War. It just seems like it was so much more of a "gentleman's war" in some ways.

I would probably cover it from the abolitionists point of view. I would have loved to have been a rebel female abolitionist speaking out against the horrors of actually considering people as possessions, attending grand balls only to be thrown out of some and celebrated in others because I can't keep my mouth shut.

As far as the Warren Report and JFK, I never really got into that whole conspiracy theory and the JFK years. I'm much more interested in why the government refuses to declassify Area 51. Just what do they think they are hiding??

Favorite color?

Favorite season?

Favorite pastime?

Describe your idea of a perfect day.

Also, if you had to pick one, what would you say has been the best day of your life so far

favorite color: red

favorite season: autumn (and I miss it. Louisiana doesn't have an autumn)

favorite pastime: playing with my dogs (DUH!) or reading and people watching

perfect day: I wake up to breakfast in bed - my husband's stuffed french toast, all the pets have already been fed and there is a maid coming to clean the house while my husband and I take a day trip on a surprise adventure - like skydiving or just to some place we've never been before. We spend all day together, have a nice lunch, maybe a little shopping and then spend the evening at a spa for massages and pampering and a nice, catered dinner in a private room. I'll leave the rest of the evening to your imagination.

best day of my life so far: Man! these are hard questions!!  It sounds corny, but I'd have to say my wedding day and not just because I got to marry my best friend. I planned everything - down to the last detail and I was so proud to see it all come together. Many of my friends and family were there that I had not seen in a long time and we all had so much fun.

This is another tough one. I think my sense of humor is all my own, but I do find myself slippy into the corny-corn-corn kind of humor my father is famous for sometimes.

Sadly, I think I look most like my dad - more and more every year, actually. But my mannerisms are more like my mom's and my step-mom's combined. I hear myself sounding a lot like my step mom more and more every day. (I grew up with my dad and step mom. My mom saw us every other weekend).

What dog breeds have lived with you at any point in your life?

What breed that you have never had would you like to have some day?

OK. I'm going to quick get these last questions answered so I can pass the gauntlet to someone else.

Dog breeds: Are you kidding me? I can't remember all those!! I have fostered over 100 dogs in the last 5 years - everything from pekingnese to brusssells griffon, to american staffordshire terriers to german shepherds and all kinds of mixes in between.

Dog breed I would like to have: definitely a saint bernard, pyrenees or newfoundland. Newfie would have to top my list. I've been in love with the breed since I was about 12 years old.

What do you like best about the area where you live?

NO SNOW IN THE WINTER TIME! No freezing nose hairs, no ice to scrape off the windshield. No wind so cold it burns your lungs.

The neighborhood where I live consists of only 2 streets so it's nice and quiet. The community is small and very close knit. Strangers instantly take you in as family.

What do you like least?

The insufferable humidity in the summertime. It feels like a 20lb. weight on your head sometimes. And, of course, the hurricanes!!

What is your favorite cartoon?  Either now or from childhood.

childhood memory: We had a banister at the top of our stairs that had bars holding it up. My dog growing up was a schnauzer/poodle mix (schnoodle) named Pepper. Whenever I would run up the stairs, Pepper would stick his head through the bars of the banister so I could give him a kiss on my way up.

favorite candy bar: all of them!!  Seriously, if I had to pick, I guess it would be Snickers or plain old Hershey bar.

favorite cartoon:  I used to love Mighty Mouse
