paws in the cold?
« on: December 04, 2006, 07:00:23 am »
I'm new here, looking for advice or input.  We have 3 dogs, all rescue scenarios so we don't know precisely the genetics. One is some kind of wolf-dog "mix" (please no lectures, we didn't breed her, just adopted her after lots of reading and crossed fingers).  Xena, the wolfish girl, was licking one of her pads and acting unhappy.  I saw little things on the ground and when I could finally get close enough to see what was up with her pad, a few pieces of the outer touch fibers have come off!  Has anyone seen this before?  It's been very cold here the last few days but she has a heavy coat and has never indicated any cold weather problems, so I don't know if that's relevant or not.  I'm guessing we need to clean the pad, wrap it up to keep it protected, etc.  Any ideas would be appreciated...

Thanks for the input, I'll look into the booties (and not cover up her sore spots!).
