: Sensitive Tummy Foods

Does anyone know of a good dog food for sensitive tummies and easily digestable? I have to switch Kiah's food again. She pukes at least two to three times a week. She'll eat and sometimes won't puke for hours later. I'm thinking the food isn't digesting correctly. The vet wants her on science diet id. I really want to avoid that at all cost.

Sugar Bear is doing good on the Solid Gold Lamb and Rice.

I believe Nutro has a food for sensitive stomachs...I think it may be oatmeal and something, I will look it up for you.

yes, here is the link, it is Nutro Chicken Meal, Rice, and Oatmeal formula. One of my mom's dogs is on it, it is the only thing she can keep down. Good luck!

Hi,

We just switched to Wellness and Winslow is doing very well. We have him on the lamb formula but the Fish and Sweetpotato is supposed to be good for the sensitive tummies.

Chester is on Natural Balance - Allergy formula for breakfast  and is doing well on it.  He had the itcheys with all the other foods we tried and he's fine now.

We also use "Coco's Cuisine" for both guys at dinner...and they love it.  It's packaged rice with carrots, parsley, garlic and potatoes, I think and you boil it up with a pound of raw meat.  Each package makes 15 cups of food so it lasts them two meals.  They are both doing so well on it.  Chester picks at breakfast and scarfs every bit up at dinner.  There are two bags in each package and I think it's about $8.00 for 30 cups of food...not counting the meat....

Which natural balance? I looked on the website and they have potato & duck, sweet potato & fish or venison & brown rice. They all say special allergy formula.

OH...sorry.  Potato & Duck.  He's been so much better after we  found this.  We started on Proplan (breeders recommendation), Solid Gold, Eagle Pack, a fish based kibble (he point blank refused to eat that!) and he tolerates Natural Balance.  He loves, LOVES the Coco's cuisine, though!

Flint River Ranch is what we use for Drake.  It has helped with his chronic stomach problems and loose stools.  Mia uses it for her Newf, Yogi, too.  Here's a link to it:

I would suggest trying a new protien and/or grain source, switching to a holistic food, looking into a grain-less diet or even considering switching to the BARF diet (you can make it yourself, but they also have a number of brands that sell frozen barf meals at specialty food stores)

There are a few brands that come to mind that market sensitive stomach and/or special allergy foods:

Hey! I know I already mentioned this one to you in chat, April, but in case anyone else is looking, too....

Wysong has a variety called Synorgen. Its chicken and brown rice (along with lots of other yummy stuff like kelp and plums) The main thing about Wysong (and I'm sure lots of other premium foods) is that they put lots of pro-biotics in there to help with digestion. Dr. Wysong believes that is a key component that is missing from many animal (and human) diets.

We've had Cabeza on Wysong (not the Synorgen, just the "Maintenence") for about 4 years. His coat is gorgeous, he has nice firm stools, and no more itchy skin. We're quite satisfied. And we haven't found it to be significantly more expensive than any other food, in many cases, its even cheaper. I know its cheaper than Wellness and Merrick.

My Great Pyr Bo was diagnosed with IBS/mild pancreatitis about 6 months ago & our vet put her on Eukanuba Fish & Potato (prescription diet).  That cleared up her cow-pie stool and stopped her vomiting almost immediately.  We think that she has some kind of grain allergy, as she seems to tolerate most meats, rice and potato quite well.  I now need to switch her to another novel protien food because the vet food is too expensive for two dogs.  I was told that Canidae & Wellness F & SP are good.  Has anyone had any experience wtih either of these brands?
Thanks!

I just switched to VeRUS- primarily meat based with no corn or wheat only brown rice for grains  Alot of dogs are allergic only to the grains in commercial dog foods.

We have found that for dogs that periodically vomit several hours after eating -if it is bilish sometimes it is because their tummies are empty  Give them a biscuit between meals and at night before they go to bed will help keep the stomach settled  Also ginger snap cookies are supposed to be great for settling sensitive stomachs

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I would recommend Natural Balance. They do have a potato & duck. It's an allergy formula. I get it at petco. I now have Kiah on it, so we'll see how it works.

California Natural foods are very simple, I think they only have like 10 ingredients.  That may make it easier to digest.

Have you tried any of the no-grain foods?  Or tried feeding raw?
