Newfoundland Discussions / what do I do about the puppy nips
« on: April 27, 2007, 04:53:56 pm »
Zig is 9 weeks old.  I do have puppy school set up for him, but until he has all of his shots I can't take him.  Any ideas about what to do with the nips he gives to my 9 year old daughter.  HE is trying to figure out who is boss.  Doesn't really try it with me or my husband.  What have other people done as I don't want a 180 pound dog thinking he's in charge of my daughter.  I know Newf's are the type to watch out for kids but I don't need another boss in the house.

Here's my new baby!! Ziggy (AKA Mr. Zigglesworth)

you will love your newfy pup.  I just got mine 1 week ago, at 8 weeks, and he is awesome.  I can't believe that so far there have been no accidents in the house.  He actually give great signs that he needs to go.  Yes...be sure to puppy proof as it  will be into everything.  They are adorable and so affectionate.  Keep us updated.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / suggestions for a crate
« on: April 22, 2007, 09:40:28 pm »
Ideas anyone.  We have a new Newfy pup.  We want to keep him in a crate at night.  Any suggestions for the type and size we should buy?  We don't have air conditioning, although it doesn't get that hot here, so I was thinking a wire one.
Thanks

GLad to see that I am not the only one that has to get a new vehicle to fit the dog.  Zig, my 8 week old newf, fits great into my Nissan Maxima right now...GIve it another 9 months or so.  I really don't want to do go the van route, but it is so practical.

Thanks for the replies.  He actually managed to do a few romps around the back yard...Now he's all tired out again.  Guess the kids wore him out yesterday.
Looking forward to being part of this community.

Thanks!!!

Newfoundland Discussions / new Newfy pup

HI,
I'm new to the site, and hoping to get some advise.  I have a 8 week old Newf (pure bred).  He seemed to be doing great the first few days home but today is sleeping all day long.  He is eating and drinking (not eating as much as normal, but still managed almost 2 cups of kibble).  The kids were playing with him yesterday so perhaps he's catching up on his sleep.  Any ideas?  In other words, should I be worried.
