: Leather Collars
: Mokeymunster August 11, 2005, 09:59:52 PM
I just have a question for everybody out there.  I am looking to get my boxer a leather collar.  Her nylon collar seems to be causing her hair loss and irritation.  (to make a long story short she has been allergic to a ton of things- yes she has been tested)  I am looking for something that isn't black or brown, and doesn't have spikes on it.  I had found a nice pink one with silver playboy bunnies on it, it was on ebay the auction ended quickly after i found it and now i don't know where to go.  I am just looking for a nice collar some color other than black or brown that isn't going to cost me a small fortune.  Any ideas?

not sure about leather collers - maybe some kinky shop...lol...  I did see hemp collars with a nice soft lining at petsmart and a few places on line...they look comfy

ebay is  a great resource to get nice leather collars at a decent price.  So is outlet shopping.  I bought a fun red patent leather Coach collar for my Newfie girl Lucille at the outlets for $25.00.    She was SO divine in it!!  I think leather is better for water dogs, at least, since it doesn't hold the "wet dog" smell as much.  Also, to do a search on the web for leather collars brings up all sorts of retailers with tons of options in all price ranges.  george.com has good sales from time to time, for example.

We swear by rolled leather collars.  It doesn't mat up our guys hair.  But, we don't worry about color!! ;)
Can't see the collar through all the Newf hair anyway!!

Now harness, hey, I worry about the color!!  LOL.

I don't know where you could buy leather collars that you want since I usually only see black and brown ones. Another option someone mentioned  trying hemp collars - if I remember correctly there is a company called earth dog that makes them, and I want to say that the BPO member doghealer knows the people who own the company, so you could search her name to find their web address

Ohhh and if I dont remember wrong, One of yours has a leather Harley collar right? Chris wasnt too impressed by my suggestions for collars, but a Harley one would be perfect for him. Chris used to have one, a Harley not a collar lol.... Then he married me and voila he had a mean wife, several kida and lotsa pets instead hehe

Carolyn..... I have ordered a lot from Jeffers too, and like them a lot. Good products, good prices and they are fast.

our harley collars are nylon...but we have plans to get them leather ones soon!

I'm not the one who orinigally suggested looking at the kinky stores. :)  I could kick myself for not thinking it first though.  but it is a great idea.

Meeeeee mean  :o :o :o noooooo way lol.......

Ohhhhh a Low Rider!!!!   That's my next one.  A low rider.
It is a little impractical I agree.  Luckily I have no kids. :) :) :)
I just got really addicted to riding.  I love my little harley...and with gas prices almost over $2.60 for regular a gallon...I'd never sell it.

: mastiffmommy August 12, 2005, 08:48:40 AM
Ohhhh chris keeps telling me just how great it would have been to have tha harley now, because the gas is so expensive. Thats when I ask him how many side carts you can hang on one harley, or do they come in family size hehe

I have also used Ebay and I love some of the collars that I have. I really like this lady's store http://stores.ebay.com/EURODOGS_W0QQcolZ2QQdirZQ2d1QQdptZ0QQftidZ2QQsojsZ0QQtZkm

My Lab has longish hair around his neck and we use rolled leather collars to keep his hair from coming out.

one side car only.  I know a lady with a Greyhound ... Sofie rides in the side car all the time.

Ask Chris if he'd like the buy a Trike!  I saw one for sale on my home yesterday.  I'd have to find it again...but I saw it.

It's a Harley...that looks like a really huge tricycle.
Two big wheels in the back and a big wheel on the front fork.

I've seen people load a ton of passengers on these.
LOL

ahhhhh okay...... they look kinda comfy for being a bike. But I still just cant see 2 adults 3 kids 3 dogs and a cat on it hehehehe

I know you are a bike lover and enjoy them, me not so much lol..... I like it to be real comforbable in a car, with a/c and a comfy seat where I can take a nap. I now youll now say, you can take a nap on a bike (if riding) nooooooo I know I would fall off and kill myself. I am convinced that even if I was holding on for dear life I would fall off and kill myself hehe

Hey Marit, you are missing the point here. Mommy and Daddy ride the bikes, the kids stay home and take care of the critters. It's an amazing sense of freedom

When I was a passenger I would sleep on the back seat.  It was bad when I got nap jerk.  :)
But my ac is the wind in my face.  :)
Bikes aren't for everyone.  And i doubt that many could fit on a tricke either. But wouldn't it be fun to find out!?

From leather collars to Harleys...Hey Marit I don't like riding on the back eighter, thats why I ride my own. I just got a 2002 Low Rider. From what I been reading I think theres a lot of us "women" riders here. Still last night it cost $9 to fill up my 3.5gal tank.

I got about $6.00 to fill up my little hugger.  Still $9.00 is better than $50.
I want a low rider so bad.

OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMYYYYYYYYYYGGGGOOOOODDDD!  what kind of bike is that! ?  Way cool woman!

It's a 2003 Honda Shadow 650. I'd only been riding solo for about a month when I got it...Didn't want to take the risk of dumping a Harley, although the old man rides a 1986 Sportster 883---the first year for the evo motor. Since my son is 17, he's looking at starting to ride and has his eye on the Sporty, so I guess Dale will have to get a new Fatboy...Break s his heart.

A harley dumps the same as another bike.  I dropped mine ONCE!!!!!

It's a sweet bike!

Yeah...it would break my heart to have to go buy a Fatboy!
: Re: Leather Collars

It dumps the same but the Honda costs a whole lot less to repair. Eventually I will get a Nighttrain.... or a Heritage though.

OOOHHHHHH  the nighttrains are HOT!
My hubby has a Heritage.   If you're looking for comfort...that's the one to get unless you want a touring bike.
yeah...we have had fixing issues.  My hubby got rearended last summer and the insurance gave him a check for $150 and we had to make the rest up...to the tune of about $450.  Just for a bent fender.

I'm going to bring the conversation back to dog collars so I can show off my landlords' products! Haha. Hemp collars are hypo-allergenic and they have really neat designs... www.earthdog.c om. I rent my house from these folks and they make everything at home by hand. They are some of the coolest people I have ever met. :D

Thank you doghealer.  I found some collars i really like at earthdog.com.  I will be getting something from them very soon.  Thanks to everyone who put in ideas.  Especially the hemp idea, I hadn't even thought of that.

Dont be sorry stella.... that pic is way cool. So you, Carolyn and Lins are biker chicks  :D Okay just a question here, when at Myrtle beach at bike week, we see the "ladies" that ride in chaps and nothing else...... are you one of them lol......?

I am totally impressed, I have been horseback riding, show jumping for years and years, I would die on a bike though, I know I would fall off, flat on my face or possibly have a heart attack before then.

And yeah I guess it would be fun to see how many could fit on that trike thingie, at least for the poeple NOT on it hehe.

Stella I cant even remember when I had a vacation from kids and dogs. Hmmmm nooooo I cant its gotta be a loooong time ago.

I love Harleys!!!!  I want one of my own too....  But sometimes I do like to ride on the back...kinda sexy!!  Course that would be when I am sportting my leather coller...lol
: Re: Leather Collars
: GR8DAME August 15, 2005, 07:54:59 AM
Although I too have seen the ladies in bikinis and chaps on bikes I have never chosen to join them. I am far too fond of my skin to risk road rash, and the sight would probably frighten small children and strike adults blind ;D.

I love horses and have ridden casually for years, used to work at a stable in my 20's until it closed down. Alas, that has been the trend in these urban areas, and unless you own or want to spend $50.00 and hour to walk nose to tail with 30 other people after driving for two hours to find a place that is still open...  Now I just ride a couple of times a year when we go camping.

I am lucky, both of my kids are older, and very independent, so we can take off for an hour or two on the bikes and get mentally recharged. Plus with gas at the current price I take the bike to work most decent days as it is much cheaper than driving my van.
Stella
PS The same muscles that you have developed horseback riding would keep you from falling off!

Well i thought i would keep everyone up to date.  This week i was out of town and i came across a pet boutique.  I found a beautiful purple leather collar with silver paw prints on it.  I was going to order a hemp one, but this purple leather just screamed mokeys name. LOL ;D
: Re: Leather Collars
: ZooCrew August 28, 2005, 02:28:02 PM
Purple collar.  Way cool.  I had the hardest time finding a leather collar that wasn't black or brown for Gunther.  Those colors would blend in too well, and I always like it when a collar stands out.  I finally found a red one, and it works for him.

I love harleys.  I plan on gettng a Sportster when I finish paying off my car.  That is, unless I need to get an SUV for all the pets I seem to be accumulating.  Right now, we manage to all squeeze into my Honda Accord.  The move to IL will be interesting next spring when Gunther will be close to full grown.

Hey, you guys ride horse?  I haven't in a few years, but i still have a horse at my parents.  Here's some pics.  Her name is Pepper, which suits her to a T.  The other two are my sister's horses. Foxy is closest to us.  She just had a foal this spring.  I wish I could find the pics.  The one in the middle is Cairco (don't ask my how my sis spells it).  She's a mustang, and you could see her brand on her neck if she was facing the other way.

Your horses are gorgeous. I'm jealous. Around here it is too expensive to board, and nowhere good to ride aside from the same old trails in the forest preserve or take your life into your own hands along the streets. I just satisfy myself with my Big Paw Babies.

My parent's live in MN now and have land for the horses.  But when we all lived in SD, we did have to board all of them, and yes it got very expensive.  In fact, we moved them around to I believe 4-5 different boarding places, trying to find a cheaper one.

When me and my hubby finally stop moving around, we plan on getting some land so we can have horses.  Right now, if I want to ride, they do have a trail ride on base, but it's just not the same.

I know someone before mentioned planetdog.com ..... i am going to get one of their hemp collars that have soft fleece lining.  They make a great leash that i already have (from petsmart) that is hemp with a soft fleece linning in the hand loop.  It is SOOOOOO comfy, and it is 5 feet long, which is perfect for shakes right now (4 is too short, 6 is too long.... there are very few 5ft leashes out there) .... there isnt a picture of the leash but here is a link and you can see the pretty colors ( autumnal shades of orange, green and purple).
