Kitten pics.....

Butters

Jack is not fooled by the laser and looks at me like I'm crazy when I shine it in front of him.
Jill knows where the laser is stored and will come flying when that drawer is opened for any reason.  She never tires of chasing that light.  I've shown it into the backyard from the second floor deck at night.  She LOVES that!   I signal Jilly to stop with my hand and say, "All done."   and she knows laser time is over.
Daisy just started chasing the laser.  She goes crazy for it too.  She doesn't understand 'all done' yet.    She will continue to look for the laser hours after we've stopped playing.....no t continously... but suddenly she will remember it and sniff around for it.
The laser is great for tiring out the dogs that like it and it never fails to crack up guests who aren't used to Laser Guided Dogs.

They do seem very healthy and the mom is so loving.  She doesn't mind if we handle them and she wants to be loved too.
I will have more pics soon.    My daughter's birthday was Monday and we had a family party because she didn't want a party.  C'mon......Sweet 16....ya gotta have a party, right?    Her surprise party is tonight so I've been working on that.   I don't think she knows. *crossing fingers*
The kittens have been a great distraction for her.
After the party tonight I will have more time for kitty pics.  :)

Have I mentioned that you are all AWESOME!!!
Here I was a little concerned about the appropriatenes s of posting a kitty question on a doggie site.  I shouldn't have worried!!!
The kitties are awesome!   My daughter and I consulted our vet tech friend who suggested 3 identification options...the strings, clipping fur in different areas, or nail polish.   My daughter is 16.  We opted for the polish.  ::)
I found a food scale and duct taped a glad bowl to it.   I calibrated it back to zero.
The kitties weigh from 11.25 oz. to 14.0 oz.   They are all color coded and have been named.   Going with the SouthPark theme (remember....16 yr old daughter) we have Cartman, Kyle, Stan, Tweak, & Butters.    I looked up the creators of SouthPark and found that one's name is Stone.   I borrowed a name of a bigpaw doggie and named the mom Petra (which means stone).
This is Cartman....

I went to an informational interview about fostering yesterday.  I didn't intend to begin fostering yesterday but how could I turn down a poor mama who was extremely stressed by the shelter enviroment.  The shelter is so over crowded that they couldn't offer this mom a more private area.   While I was signing the fostering paperwork 3 more cats were dropped off as strays.......a ll within 10 minutes!  At least one is pregnant.    Ugh!
We started home with our precious bundles and were about 15 min. into our drive home when the cell phone rang.  It was the shelter.  When they began cleaning out the mama's kennel they found another kitten wrapped in the blanket sleeping.  "Do you think you could come back?" they asked.    Duh!  Of course!!!   Poor little angel. Fell asleep and his family moved.   My husband calls him Butters from southpark.

Questions....
1. The shelter asked that I weigh them.   What do I use to weigh them??
2. The shelter asked that I make sure each kitty is eating/sleeping/eliminating.  I have 5 little balls of grey fluff.  How do I tell them apart?
3. Any tips on kittens to make the next few weeks successful?

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

-Wendy

I had a stress headache this morning and I asked hubby to rub my neck.
I flopped on the bed and he began rubbing the back of my neck.
Soon I heard Daisy grumbling.
She got up on the bed next to me and used her mouth to remove hubby's hand from my neck.
It was the weirdest thing.  She wasn’t rough.   It was like….this is your warning…don’t touch my mom.
We are changing her name to Chastity.

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Re: Anal Gland health
« on: October 17, 2005, 10:44:04 am »
Daisy was partially blocked and leaking.   A tiny drop of this stuff can stink up a very large space.  It took some work to figure out where the smell was coming from and then figure out which of the three was leaving it.

I would like to prevent this need from arising again through diet and excercise.

If you ever DO have to have this done to your pupper......we ar old shoes if you have to hold the pup while the vet goes in....he needs both hands.   bluck

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Indoor games for big dogs
« on: October 15, 2005, 09:05:56 pm »
Hi all!

Sometimes Daisy needs a quiet indoor game that stimulates her mind....not her monstrous muscles (she gets that need met when she's romping outside).

We've been playing a game where I put her toy under an upsidedown laundry basket.
She's outgrown the challenge so it's no longer fun.

Any other suggestions of fun games for quiet indoor times?
You know....games that don't make the china shake in the cabinet as those big paws go galloping by.   ;D

Thanks in advance!

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Anal Gland health
« on: October 15, 2005, 08:59:07 pm »
Daisy's anal glands had to be expressed last week.
The vet did the deed while I held her.   The stink was......ugh!!!!
New experience for me.   Not one I'm anxious to repeat.

I'm looking for tips on how to keep those glands healthy through diet.
Jack and Jill have never had an issue so this is all new to me.
Any advice?

Thanks,
Wendy

Congrats on the new addition!!
She is so sweet.
All the pics are great.
My favorite is the pic with her surrounded by all the flowers.
Looks like she loves the outdoors.
She really is nature's child.

Keep the pics coming.

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Doggie Acne?
« on: September 05, 2005, 05:47:07 pm »
Daisy's skin is causing me stress.
She always has dirt under her "armpits".   It's difficult to remove but the vet said it's definitely just dirt.
She has trouble cleaning her belly because she has all that baggy skin.  It forms a deep valley where "stuff" can't be cleaned so I clean it for her.

Now she has developed "pimples" in those trouble areas.

Any advice, tips, suggestions appreciated.

Thank you.

Ah.......a pup that recycles...... .is self-cleaning........eats at the butt-fet......in the winter she can have poop-cicles.   ::)
As you've probably guessed....we've had poo eaters too!
Vet said that while it is DISGUSTING, it is perfectly normal and not harmful.
Yea......tell me that after you smell that BREATH!!! UGH!!
We did not opt for any additives because our dog didn't limit herself to just her own poo......but like your pup...she liked variety.  Kitty poo, other dog poo, wild animal poo.
Maybe it's like vintage wine?
Anyway......I watched her closely...gave a firm NO and DROP IT.   Of course  I did have to teach DROP IT first with toys.   Eventually she gave up the gross habit.
Good luck to you!
May she outgrow it quickly and may she have fresh breath forever more!!!

ps....if you live in a snowy area....and she's still eating poo in the winter.....a snowball tossed for her to catch will help clean between the teeth.    At other times of the year we used pieces of celery...but she didn't like it much.

Jilly loves to pull stuffing out of toys.
I bought a Holee ball that she didn't really care for....until I stuffed it with bandanas.
She won't stop until every bandana is out of that ball.   She loves it.
Then I load 'em back in.

Doesn't the time fly by when you have a pup?
They look great together!
