Interesting.  I swear, there are so many things people would never find out about unless they were on a message board like this!  I had never heard about taurine deficiencies.
The Innova here is $37.99 for a 33lb bag, the Cal. Natural chicken & rice is $34.99 for a 36lb bag and Healthwise Lamb & oatmeal is $32.95 for a 35lb bag.  The Healthwise is the cheapest, but it sounds like it wouldn't be the best!  Also, there's only pennies difference between that and the Cal Natural .  Right now, what we use (Diamond brand Large Breed) is about $24 for a 40lb bag.  We THOUGHT we picked a good one because it doesn't have CORN as it's main ingredient and it seemed to have good stuff in it, but hey, I'm new to this!  I'm not positive it's the food that's causing these "booty blowouts" because he's been eating this food for at least 6 months, I'd say.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Sensitive stomach??? UGH, I need some sleep!

OK, I'll try to make this short.  We have a year old neutered dane and he seems to have an on again off again BM problem.  He's been getting me up to let him out of his crate about every two hours a night and honestly, it's driving me crazy >:(.  I've taken him to the vet and they did a fecal exam, and it was negative and the vet seems to think that he may have gotten an intolerance to his food (AND it doesn't help that the dog likes to eat wild turkey poop!!)  ANYWHO, does anyone have any suggestions to a better diet for him to be on if he does have a sensitive digestive tract??  ??? Assume you can't afford Innova or the like.  I had him on rice and pumpkin and yogurt for a bit after the last  bout and slowly started his kibble back (still including the rice and pumpkin and yogurt.  Any help would be greatly, and I do mean greatly appreciated!  :-\

I have no clue about such things.  I'm not sure if our pup is just a big chicken (he is about most things!) or if he's just trying to warm up to the whole pool thing.  The farthest he'll go is the top step, which has no water on it and then he hides behind me like I'm going to protect him.  I keep thinking he's just getting ready to push me in ;D  Should I even want him to go in????

Just wanted to butt in and say that any time there's a fever (especially a high one) with out any other symtoms, you may want to rule out a UTI.  My daughter got a high fever when she was about a year old, and when I brought her in after about three days of fever and no other symptoms, they said "virus" and to bring her back in if it didn't go down in two days.  I asked the dr. "how do we know if it's not a kidney infection or something?"  He said, "Oh, we'd have to cath her and that's not fun...blah, blah, blah".  Anyways, it did end up being a kidney infection (we ended up finding out later that she had urinary reflux which caused it).  I just wanted to let everyone be aware of the nasty UTI's!!

I agree that it was our fault for paper training him in the garage, and now it seems that we'll (or should I say, "I WILL") have to re-train him to go outside.  When I take him out there, he's more interested in exploring the chicken coop and eating wild turkey poop that he could really care less about anything else.  That's why I laugh about the "re-call" thing...he finds turkey poop way more of a delicacy than anything I have for him!  I just had him off leash and he wouldn't leave the chicken area.

Long walks can't be done quite yet with him because the pads on his feet are really tender(pink) and the last time he went on one, they got completely raw and bleeding.  We are trying small walks to toughen them up, but we don't want to create a larger problem.

I really appreciate all of the ideas you all are giving me...something will eventually work...

I'll try moving the paper closer to the door.  Yesterday, I tried just moving some of the p**p paper outside to see if when he smelled it, he'd get the hint.  Nope.

We're home just about all the time.  I'm lucky enough to be a stay at home mom.  He goes in his crate at night and at nap time and if we're not going to be gone a long time.  If we're gone for awhile, he's in the garage, which will have to change because he just "goes" when he wants.  What does everyone else do with their dogs if they're gone for awhile?  I love the amount of property we have, but it sure is a pain that it's not fenced!!  When he was allowed off leash when we went outside before (before he started getting curious, that is!) he would do his business on the grass....I'm convinced it's the leash...no matter how long it is!

Just this morning, he was on about a 20 foot long lead and he went pee like he normally does, had breakfast, sat around awhile and we let him back in the house.  He started acting "funny" and going towards the garage door, and the second my daughter let him out there...he POOPED!!  Have you seen the movie "Open Season"??  My daughter says that Cooper is like Boog the bear...he couldn't go in the forest...he needed a toilet!!!

OK, so we paper trained the pup in the garage since it was so yucky outside when we got him.  He did a great job learning.  UNFORTUNATELY, he's now huge (7 month old great dane!) and he WON'T go P**P outside!!  I think it's because I have him on a leash or a lead when I try to get him to "go" outside and he doesn't like the constriction.. ..??  Our property isn't fenced (YET) and we can't just leave him out there by himself because he's just too curious and wants to wander.  What to do NOW???  Any suggestions??  I want my garage back to normal!!  By the way...invisibl e fences do not work with him...we tried it and at first, it worked (two training sessions) THEN he just stood there twitching and trying to scratch himself.  One sick puppy, huh??

Yes, it's actually cake underneath.  The litter could either be crushed Oreos or crushed Graham crackers.  You'd be surprised at how many people love those cakes....One time it went for over a hundred bucks at a dessert auction!!

For those Jeep tires, use mini donuts...

Okay, so Cooper is 6 months old, but he is really driving me nuts.  He's a great dane, and from what I understood BEFORE we got him was that danes were mellow, relaxed dogs.  HUH!!  He is constantly trying to run off with the kids' things, the laundry (socks especially), and today it was the library books!!!  He has plenty of toys, a Kong included...whi ch he won't play with.  Today, we were trying out a new furniture arrangement and he decided to launch himself over the back of the couch.

Does anyone else have stories to share about how their dog USED to be spastic and now is a perfect relaxed angel???I really need some sort of light at the end of the tunnel thing  ;D or is it >:(

I just noticed it.  At first, I thought that since he sometimes sleeps with it all curled up, that maybe he'd done it for too long and it was bothering him.  I think it's bugging him so much that he's not his usual spastic self and is willing to settle down and sleep (he never wants to settle down in the house at this age!)  I can't see any swelling or anything.

We have no idea what our pup Cooper did to himself to cause this limping he has this morning!!  He's completely favoring his front left leg.  It seems to be at the joint right above his foot, but I'm not real sure.  Has anyone had experience with their dog limping for some unknown reason?  He hasn't been out romping around at all to cause a strained ligament or anything...he's been in the house and in the garage.  Any ideas?  Is there a certain amount of time I should give it to see if it gets better?   ???
