Greta's white blood cell count low
« on: January 13, 2006, 06:41:10 pm »
Greta had a blood test yesterday and the vet called to say that while her kidney, liver and diabetes panels are all normal, her white blood cell count is low and her marrow count is up. This means her body is trying to fight something off and unless it is just a passing thing, such as the fact that my sister picked up a pup that was running scared in the desert along the interstate in NM last week and brought it home...and it could have passed something to Greta that her system is fighting....or ...

I don't even want to think about it. I am very sad today.

I am sorry to hear about Greta. I hope this is a passing thing -  Zoey and I will cross our fingers and paws for her.

Hopefully, Gretta has just picked up some sort or virus that
will pass.  Did your vet start her on any antibiotics? Do you have to have her re-tested after several days? I'm always scared sh**less when Dar acts under the weather, and I take her in for all kinds of tests because I always expect the worst.  So far, she has only had a urinary tract infection and one other time, just didnt feel like eating, and the vet couldnt find anything out of whack with her.  I will keep you and Gretta in my prayers tonight and hope that she will get over whatever is bothering her real quickly! :)

Greta will go back for a second blood test in a month, unless she shows any strange activity between now and then...of course I will take her right away.

Maybe give her some vitamin C to help her fight the infection?

Stay optimistic.  It could be just something Greta got from the puppy like you said.  :)

And believe me, all of you came into the room she would love you to death. She adores people.

Aw, Moonie!! She's just fighting something off...just a cold or something icky. She's SO fine! Just stay positive. There's probably been a zillion times that she had elevated white blood cells and you didn't even know about it cuz you didn't have a test at that time. Don't worry!!! Greta is going to be just fine.

There isn't a change in her behavior, so we'll be going in for the test in a couple of weeks to recheck.  :-\

Well...hold a paw for me while she's getting her tests done.
