The maremma is a actually came out of the Italian LGD Pastore Abruzzese.  The Maremma is the lighter version..They might resemble the GP but they have a bit more serious temp then the GP and their coat is only white...The GP is the easier and more common of the LGD but still a LGD which are different then other mastiff type breed in regards to behavior

If you actually look at each LGD breed you can see how different they actually look

The Marrema closely resembles the kuvasz.  The are more refined than the GP, and are less domesticated than the GP, also.

Lovely dogs! I was just going to mention that the Maremma is a lot more common in England than the Kuvasz are.

I think all the big white guardian breeds are closely related and they all seem to be dotted along the same huge chain of mountain ranges stretching through Asia and Europe. Probably the best example of that is the Great Pyrenees and the Pyrenean Mastiff.

Very pretty!  I was looking at one here in rescue a few years ago but was told they tend to be more aggressive than the Pyrs.  Decided not to try that route since I wanted less aggressive tendancies.

Pretty much all LGD's have a distrust to one degree or another...some are much sharper and more severe and other more mild and tolerant but there is a distrust there non the less
