Great Pyrenees Discussions / Re: Tomorrow is Phoebes day to get Spayed.
« on: February 26, 2008, 07:33:36 am »
Well we are home and settling in Phoebe did great she is a bit wobbly but not too much so that she could'nt clean up after the boys under the dinner table.  I did end up getting her chipped it will be a extra piece of mind, she wears a collar with tags, 24/7 but you never know.  We were at Target today and picked her up a new stuffed pink Piggy, she totally destroyed her other one, but she sure loved him, shes not too interested in him right now.  It will be a quiet night here.

Tomorrow Phoebe will go in and be spay, does anyone have any tips for me for her recovery.  I expect everything to go smoothly.  I am still unsure if I should chip her.  Are there any special questions I should ask the vet?

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Re: Puppy Business or Pyr Business?
« on: February 03, 2008, 02:10:30 am »
Bear(13 weeks old)Pyr is obsessed with water :o He will play in is water bowl and paw all the water out then lay in it,He goes out onto the back porch with my Cocker in the fenced yard to potty and he digs into buddys water bowls on the porch, first empting the water secondly making a mess on the porch and third getting himself soaked :P
I use milk jugs to pour water into the bowls outside,While i am pouring the water he will stick his entire head under the stream!
That is exactly how Phoebe was with her water when she was very little and when it would rain and we went for walks she would walk in the water that collected in the street it was so cute.  We took her to the lake and she would dig in the sand for hours, but never went into the lake.
And now she hates baths so it will be interesting to see if she likes to play in the water come spring its all frozen here.

I have not read that pyrs are water dogs? :-\

Is this puppy play or do pyrs love water?

IMO i think he gets hot and digs at the water to cool himself.

Phoebe is still timid around strangers she does'nt bark or growl she just keeps her distance and observes then she will come close and they reach out and she backs away eventually she warms up.  She has been this way since she came home with us I just ignore her and let her come on her own pace.  Boy  when she knows the person she cant get to them fast enough.  I am not worried she meets new people all the time and is very well socialized.
He will settle in.

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Re: grooming questions
« on: February 01, 2008, 03:04:51 am »
I brought Phoebe in to be groomed and she dremmeled her nails and trimmed her feet as well as her hocks, and that helped a ton.  She also trimmed up her private area too.

Welcome!  My name is Becky and I have a sassy 7 month old Pyrenees named Phoebe.  She is an indoor and outdoor dog, she loves to be outside in the cold.  She currently weighs in at about 73lbs.
Prior to Phoebe we had Molly Girl and she was a Pyr/Springer mix, we fell in love with the breed and when she died suddenly last spring we new what we had to get.
You will love it here.

Your right I think I will call the city.  Some people are just so uptight.  I can only imagine what they think of me sitting on the front porch with my laptop and a beer in my hand.

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Phoebe has gotten us in trouble!!!
« on: January 24, 2008, 11:20:46 am »
We got a letter from the City yesterday stating that they received a complaint of nusiance barking, not my darling Phoebe!!!!  I have been really good about bringing her in as soon as I hear her bark but apparently not good enough for some people, so now we need to start keeping her inside more which it too bad because she really love to be outside laying in a snowbank.
The city ordinance states"it is unlawful for any person to keep or harbor a dog which habitually barks or cries.  Habitual is defined as barking for repeated intervals of at least 5min with less than one minute of interruption."
I have to say that never has she barked for repeated intervals of 5 min. ever.  So goes the great barking debate.

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Phoebe's food aggression!!!! HELP!!!
« on: January 13, 2008, 11:32:56 am »
It all actually started when she was just 10wks or so and she got sick and was on a prescription diet canned soft food.  She would growl when the kids or myself would be by her while she ate, had the kids take the bowl from her and pretend to eat it and sit by her to try and get her used to it. Well now that she is 70+ lbs it has got me worried if she has a rawhide etc. she is just so focused on that food and if the kids even go near her she growls at them.  I know its a dominance issue but the boys are just too young for me to be comfortable with them reaching in and taking the treat from her.  My husband and myself are definately the Alfa and she doesnt growl at us.  I have just resorted to not giving her any bone type treats anymore she acts like she hasnt eaten in a week when she gets them.  I could crate her when she eats them but that does'nt solve the problem.
Does anybody have any input on this.  She is the sweetest thing ever but give her a bone and she goes nuts.
Becky

She is a beautiful puppy. And seems to be very affectionate. It looks as if she likes ears, too!!! How much does she weigh at this point?

Terri
I'm thinking she must be 70lbs or so she was 62 at 6mos. time for my husband to get on the scale with her.

Well Phoebe is almost 7mos old now and she has done great with the underground fencing, even with the snow cover she knows her boundries and stays with in them.

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Phoebe just LOVES perfume!!
« on: December 10, 2007, 01:08:56 pm »
I have recently discovered that Phoebe loves perfume.  It started one day when I was laying on the couch and she came up to me and started sniffing me and rubbing her face on my arm and neck I thought she was nuts.  I mentioned it to a friend of mine and she said her dog loves perfume too she save the perfume samples in magazines and he rolls all over them, so I now do the same and she just go crazy over them I rub them on her bed and she is in heaven rolling around its just hilarious. She is such a dork.  We just love her to death.
