Joy swims at last
« on: July 23, 2007, 10:28:19 pm »
Here are a few pics of our trip to the Lake this summer.  Joy had never swam before and she took to it like a duck to water.  She knew exactly what to do.  Not even a wake or splash.

Gabi, Newfoundland
Amy, Irish Wolfhound
Sara, Irish Wolfhound
Gintaro, Irish Wolfhound (from Poland)

Think we can borrow her to teach our waders Kali & Fumble how to swim!

I thought that Joy was going to save Amy at one time because of all the splashing that Amy was doing it looked like she was drowning.
I wish we had a lake nearby for Joy to swim.  She loved it.  I still can't believe how natural it comes to them.  Not all can do it though.  I was surprised that she could, she was 16 months, lots of people start them when they are pups.
Like training a baby to float, with your hand under there belly and then they feel safe.  This never was an issue for us.  No help required.

She looks wonderful in the water, truly a natural!  Daisy is our water lovin' dog, but Sammy doesn't like it at all and so far, Cassie doesn't seem interested.  That's been typical for our Pyrs so far, so I'm really tempted to add another water pup to our family since we live next to water.  I keep toying with the different possibilities, Newfy, Leo, Newfy/Pyr mix, Golden....I haven't been able to decide yet.  Joy is sure beautiful and I love the pic of her swimming with her girls.  Precious!

It's amazing how naturally they swim in the water. We like to call Rosie a barge, she moves as slow as one in the water.
