metro atl connections?
« on: December 03, 2006, 06:35:09 am »
Our family just adopted what we think is a swissy.  We are adjusting pretty well with our large dog.  If there is anyone in metro-Atl we'd love to meet you.

Very cool.  I feel like we're the only family with a big dog.  Although we just saw a borzoi at the local petsmart so he got as many stares as we did  :)  I'm new to the BPO site so I'm still digging my way around so to speak.  smh

Hi there and welcome to BPO, but beware it is highly addictive!  :)

Congratulation s on the new addition of your handsome boy!

I too live in ATL with 3 big dogs... a dobie/pit, hound mix, and weimaraner! My roomie has a lab and 3 chihuahuas, so needless to say there is never a dull moment!

What part of town do you live in?

I'm in Athens, GA. ;D There are some really cool big dog owners here, surprisingly!! Just in the past few months I have seen two Mastiffs, a Bullmastiff, an Irish Wolfhound, a Saint Bernard, and a gorgeous black Dane. ;D

Welcome to the board, I would love to see some more of that dog of yours, SMH! He's huge! Makes Santa look tiny!!! :D

It has been moved and seconded that Rachel serve as the BPOSEMNGC.  All in favor, say "aye"!   ;D

I am honored to accept the nomination.... and would like to thank... BPO... and all the pups.... Ellie, Blu, Riley (for giving me a purpose - the SE meet/greet), my mom&dad... lol

Seriously though... I can organize the crap out of a closet and kitchen cabinets... this will be my first shot at organizing a meet/greet.... but I REALLY want to meet BPO'ers and their pups... so I'll give it my best shot!

All advice, recommendation s, thoughts, editorials, annecdotes and humpr welcome!  ;D

Wow guess I inadvertently got something started.  :) Thanks for getting us organized Rachel.  Okay let me try and answer a couple of the questions I saw.  We're in Gwinnett County if that helps anyone.  We adopted Jumbo from the Fulton County pound. He's been w/ us 3 months.  My dd and I are probably having the biggest adjustment.  Me because I consider myself a cat person and told DH I wanted a small to med. size dog and what did we get?! Jumbo!!  LOL Our youngest dd is having a hard time because he is literally her size so it is overwhelming for her.  She loves him to bits and he is VERY good w/ her.  As we all know the dog forgets his size and when he's excited or happy Watch Out! This was our second attempt at a rescue and I couldn't even imagine if it didn't work out.

Okay so about the dog - we think he's about 4. At first we were told a St. Bernard mix but a little resarch has us pretty convinced he's a swissy.  We got him at 95lb so a bit puny but he's put on a few pounds and that is a good thing.  We tried crate training and that was a disaster.  DH and I both work and we felt it would keep Jumbo safe. HA!! he just at through the metal crate, squeezed out of it and destroyed the bottom pan so what was the point? We took down the crate, gave it to a vet friend of ours for her practice and that was that. We are all much happier.  Whoever had Jumbo before us took good care of him as he knows commands, is housetrained etc.  We are very lucky.  He's a sweet boy so I guess it all works out in the end.  I would love to meet other folks in the SE w/ big dogs so I'll keep my eyes posted. nite all.   smh
